Have seen several bench English and Irish setters that are show titled and have made good hunting dogs. They won't win field trials because of range and style but they hunt, find birds, point and retrieve.

I still have and use two of the containers Pro Plan gave away years ago and use those for open bags. I found a couple of videos on youtube that gave some good ideas on how to start them out. Be careful though, I have one that is hooked. I can bring him in after a good run and he'll jump on the thing and bark until I turn it on.

I give raw chicken necks or backs once or twice a week which helps keep their teeth clean. They also have nylabones & deer antlers to chew on.
The few times I have shown dogs I'll scrape off any tartar if needed. It usually pops off pretty easy, the hardest part is teaching them to be still.

Had a vet recommend Bonine and have used it with success. Works like Dramamine but doesn't make the drowsy. For light cases I've given dogs ginger cookies with good success.

Nylabones, marrow bones or antlers. With 7, they get them in their crate so there won't be any issues over possession. Once a week they get raw chicken necks or backs with their dinner.

Have had cuts & scrapes from rough frozen ground as well as bean stalks. I soak their feet in warm water and epsom salts, then wipe on EMT gel. Haven't tried the spray yet. Speaking for myself as a novice, I appreciate the advice from the judges during and criticism after. Have run a few puppy & derby stakes in the past but am just starting out with a gun dog (3 trials so far) and have a whole lot to learn.

Jeff, when are you looking to have it done? One of the local clubs does a full health clinic twice a year, they offer just about every health test you can think of including ofa without anesthesia. Not sure if you want to come to St. Louis County but the costs were reasonable and they do a good job,...

Weight gain /loss depends on a pretty simple formula. If pup eats fewer calories then she burns, she will lose weight. Probably has a fast burning metabolism .. Eating fast does not affect the number of calories burned. I had a skinny friend with a high metabolism. He'd eat 6 burgers while I ate on...
