Re: Rabbit Hunting with Drahthaar
It is desired that a DD goes what we call " loud " on fur . In testing they check to see if the dog is loud ( barking ) on sight or fresh scent or both , IMO both is GREAT . So the dog points siting fur , the fur wild flushes the dog gives chase , the race is on . The fur can be feral cats , racoon ...

Have a couple of friends with them for the last 15 yrs or so and its pretty much what Trekmoor said ....... One has to watch which kennel they get the dogs from , being a breed with a limited gene pool there is some genetic problems .

Re: Man. vs. Remote launchers
I use 3 90 % of the time and I am thinking of getting 3 more receivers to have the option of putting out all of my traps ( 3 QL , 3 PL ) or any combination up to 6 . I go through a few birds because if Fido is not locked up by around 35 yds it is launch time , so for me multi traps work .

Re: Man. vs. Remote launchers
topher , I hear ya . When one considers the time you spent on training , gas costs to get to your training area , cost of the best flying birds you can get , etc . The cost of good traps is pennies .

I know of a dog that died from choking on a tennis ball while the owner looked on in horror . IMO the risk is not worth it , so No balls of ANY kind for my hounds .

Golf balls work great . The hen is moving the nest site because it has been discovered by a predator , you . Had a free range Bantam that lived with the pigeons and untill I left a golf ball or two it always a game of find me now .

As Birddogz said , PROVED by DNA . I know of yotes ( if thats what you want to call them ) that pull the scales down to 80 lbs . As Sharon said , it's a risk every time you run your dog . What scares me the most is the decoy yote / wolf that runs your dog back to the pack .

Use a sturdy muskie fishing rod with lets say very heavy line , bird is tied to line, flip bird into a bush , bring dog up on the downwind side on a check cord , handler can whoa dog or hold dog back or whatever , while his helper has the fishing rod to remove bird if handler can't control dog !!!!!

Don't know who your judges where at this time, but it will be in the chapter newsletter . I did hear something about the bird box. You have just rubbed a nerve with this post. First let me say that the people that developed the wirehair (aka DD) and the shorthair (aka DK) [ notice I left out pointer , they are versatiles,NOT pointers in the true sence] reconize the black phase. So who, over here in N. America has the right or t...
