Versatile Hunting Dog Federation
A big thank you to the VHDF for helping making make the first Michigan VHDF test a huge sucess. The Director of judges, Barry Wild, along with Rick HallWyler and Etta Bernu, made everyone feel comfortable and they spent a lot of time with all the handlers. This is one first class organization. They ...

Re: Dog Den 2
I Have 7 of them.Plus I use the heater option. I keep them in a pole barn with outside runs. The oldest is 6 years old and no issues. A couple of my dogs are chewers and have not damaged this house. I do not keep mats in those houses because they just chew them up. I think they are great houses for ...

Keep them well hydrated. A cold dehydrated dog can get in serious trouble fast. Especially after they are done running.

Re: E Setter, Brittany, or GSP
First, sorry about you losing your long time buddy. I have had both in the house. GSPs hand down are easier to take care of (coat wise) and easier to keep the house "looking" better. Having said that, whatever breed you decide the breeding for a house/gundog is the most important decision you can ma...

We do not allow hammer guns for safety reasons. We try to bring an extra youth guns for that reason and for those wh...

Re: to much importance put on pedigree?
When buying a hunting/family dog, you are really buying "Potential." You can better evaluate potential with a solid pedigree. When I am looking for a pup I want to increase the odds that I am buying a pup with a ton of "potential." However, many a great gun dog has come out of a pedigree which is no...

Re: Need advice; Training for UT
Here is how I have been sucessful. Put out 3-5 teathered ducks out 25 yards or so where it can see them. Sit him, shoot the gun and send him. Next time don't shoot and send him. Let him realize there are more ducks to get but don't let him pick those up. Do this a couple times and depending when he ...

Hello - New to board
I am new to this board so I thought I would introduce myself. My wife and I are addicted to GSPs and wing shooting. I have hunted since I was old enough to do so and have owned both Labs and now 5 GSPs. I first got into dog training in the mid 70s. I handled a German Shepard for police work. I train...
