Re: Whoa Training help needed
You should try the perfect start method for whoa training. It doesn't use half hitches, posts, barrels or boards.

Re: Must have DVD's and/or Books?
**Perfect Start Perfect Finish** I also read alot of books and none of them made sense for all of the training. Once I watched Perfect Start I thought the Earth stopped it rotation. This was the one method that made common sense for everything that was taught. The videos will cost you less then spen...

Re: Training a Pointing Dog Under a Year Old?
I received my perfect start DVD last week it took about 2 weeks to get. I ordered it from there website. It will be well worth the wait. IMHO it is way better then any of the books I read, it just makes since. I am with a lot of the others let the dog lead the time line. By 12 weeks I had mine comin...

Re: Diminished Appetite
Benny you should also check out the subject on putting weight on. One thing you could try is adding some oil to the food to make it more tasty, would also help her coat. If the new food has a higher protein/ fat content and kcal ahe wont need as much food to maintain her weight.

Re: Broken Nail Advise
I have seen those Pedimate (?) rotarys on tv...I wonder if those are junk. I use trimmers currently, but have thought about trying the dremmel out. Denise I was thinking about getting one, but I was told by a few people that they work will but use a lot of batteries. I think the best way to go woul...

Re: Off leash exercise
I started mine off leash at 7 weeks. She always consistently checks back to see where I am. I like to change directions on her to how long it will take for her to realize I am moving in a different direction. Your dog will most likely do the same. If you have access to a large fenced area you can ga...

Jason check out Valhalla kennels http://www.valhallahuntclub.com/ . This is where I am going to be doing some of my pups training. They are very good trainers and have very resonable rates.

Re: Chukars for the pup
Ray that was well put. I myself am a first time trainer with my first bird dog. I have been thinking that if I take my time and train her well when we finally get into a bird field I will be able to use that training to subtly adjust her natural instincts.

They are trying to take your ammo
Just as everyone was warned! PASS this on to anyone you know who likes to Hunt, Shoot ect.... Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his minions and allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo! The bill that is being pushed in 18 st...

Re: heck NIGHT - Kennel training
My girl is 12 weeks now and the same technique as above worked for me ( crate next to the bed). I had her crate next to the bed and when she would cry I would put my hand inside and she would lay back down and go to sleep. I have a crate where I can take the top off so it made it easy to calm her. T...

Re: Diamond
I have 3 dogs on Diamond. The 2 house dogs eat the maintenance. My 12 week old GSP eats the puppy. I will be switching her over to the perfomance or the natural extreme athlete. I swithced the house dogs when I brought home the puppy and they all are doing well. The puppy is growing like a weed.
Re: flordia
I was in Florida from '86 to '93 and our golden swam in our lake everyday almost all day long. I lived on a 10 acre lake we only had 1 small gator in there, but we wern't near any other bodies of water. The next closest was over 2 miles away. If you Know the water it is safe, but you have to frequen...

Re: Gun Shy Dog HELP!!!
Well you are going to have to start over with the gun and very slowly at her pass work up to the shotgun. I would sart with a kids cap gun while she is eating. Start at a distance away from her. If at any point she gets scared you have to back up a step in the process and start again. One thing you ...

Re: Best book on training for a newbie
54 Thanks for all the replies. I ordered the Joan Bailey book and the Delmar Smith method by Bill Tarrent from Amazon last night-- free 2 day shipping around the holidays. Nice. I'm not seeing a consensus on the DVDs. It seems the two major options suggested here are: 1- Perfect Start/Finish series ...
