I use the term "Meat Dof" to describe a hunting dog that does not trial or test much- not a bashing term just a casual reference- all of us do not necessarily want our dogs for anythng beyond being companions and hunting- me i used to test and still use my labs for test dogs at local tests.

Never miss an op to keep dogs sharp on OB- ie when walking- when someone shows up at farm etc- formal training starts march 1st and I do at least 6 sessions per week- varied and always fun for dogs- usually work two or three together.

Years ago i thought about moving to SD-called my wife in AK and told her I had found a good place to move to and a place to buy- she said TREES- I said last thursday and dat was dat- we moved to Wisc instead. I still go to SD for pheasant and waterfowl hunts.

Gave up on MN and Ia this year me thinks- went to ND last week and it was OK off to SD tonight to check it out- SD even when down 40% is better vthan most states esp when Mr Jameson still raises WILD birds for all those wild bird lodges there.

YUP- Opinions are like Butts we all have them and I'll stick with mine- (opinions and butt) My pups and dogs enjoy boat rides- running with 4 wheelers- swimming-getting petted etc but NOT playing with squeky toys or ever tug of war. Nuff said

I would never ever play tug of war nor do any of my pups get squeeky toys- is tug of war what you want to PLAY when dog brings duck or pheasant to you in fall?? I FF all my labs as soon as they have their adult teeth around 5-6 mos- to me it ain't very tramatic as I do it in my shop on floor from my mechanics stool- with last three dogs it took 3 days-2 wks and almost a mos from Hold- To walikng fetch.

My males labs have always listened better to whistle and hand signals than to voice ones-I think you should use them all. Iteach wgistle along with verbal signals early on and add hand signals right after that- i use 1 toot stop -2 toots release- and a trill for Here-or come into range-and use them ...

Finished up loading my .223 and 22-250 ammo yesterday- with a 1,000 .223's and 900+ 22-250's I should be OK although I do have 150 or so 65Gr V-Max for my .243 just to get it tuned for later in the fall.

I like the folks at the Thunderbird lodge- just off I-90 in Mitchell.Met the owner Chris Culhane years ago whilst hunting snows one spring- very good rates and a nice place-I think his nephew is now in charge of daily ops. They had a nice Bkfst and pool- liquor outlet.

Many hotels in bird country have cleaning facilities and freezers- then put them in cooler when leaving and into next one when you arrive- be careful of possesion limits and labeling regs. For a qucik trip we just use a cooler- I also eat some by having a crock pot in room.
