Re: FF or wait?

My plan right now depending on a few things is to hunt him some this November/December. I'm going to order the Perfect Retrieve DVD (unless someone on here wants to get rid of theirs) and start working on him in January. I would start sooner but I certainly don't want to rush. If all else fails I th...

FF or wait?

I've have a 17mnth old GSP and he's whoa broke, steady to shot and collared conditioned at this point but is seriously lacks in retrieving. Sometimes he’ll do a full retrieve, sometimes he won’t pick the bird up at all and other times he’ll do a ¾ retrieve. One major reason I did not FF this past sum...

Classic GDF replies. Most responses on here turn into a d ic k measuring contest and the OP never gets a honest or good answer. OP do yourself a favor and search on Facebook for gun dog or upland hunting groups. People in those groups tend to be friendlier since their real name and picture are attac...

Picking a puppy ? Not a typical question.

I am in the market for a GSP puppy. I know I was very lucky with my first GSP. I was 19 and I randomly picked out a pup and he turned out awesome. My question is how do you guys pick out a puppy without driving all over the world to check them out? I’m very confident in picking out a dog in person b...

Re: How do know when it’s time ?

I have a few times. The answer is always when the bad days outnumber the good and I am not sure which is which anymore. Is a good day a day he doesn’t mess in his kennel or poops while he’s eating. If he wasn’t completely deaf and partially blind this topic certainly wouldn’t even be brought up. I h...

Re: How do know when it’s time ?

Its a hard choice no doubt. My last dog lived to be 17 and many times i was tempted to buy the pill. Like your dog, incontinent and acting goofy/ But my dog seemed happy enough, ran around enough that i could see she wanted to keep living IMO. Nothing wrong with the dog living outside is there? How do know when it’s time ?

My GSP is 15 and I’m struggling with the decision of putting him down. He’s completely deaf and "bleep" near blind. He can’t seem to hold his bodily functions that well anymore so he’s either outside or in his kennel. He does a few other strange things also. He still gets around well which is why I’...

Hard of hearing help..

My male 11 y/o GSP seems to be losing his hearing. In the field or coming out of the woods when I yell for him he has a hard time telling which way the call is coming from and most of the time goes the wrong way. I'm fearing that one day I may lose him while hunting. Echo's really throw him off. Any...

I have no problem with people breeding GSP and labs but the price is way too extreme. I could see $300 to $500 if the dogs are proven and had some type of hunting guarantee.

Hybrid Dogs ?

I stumbled across a kennels website that sells so called hybrid dogs. The mix was lab and GSP but what shocked me was the price of $1000 to $2000 a puppy. Pheasant haunting in Ohio is disaster waiting to happen. I really shocked no one has been killed and seriously injured. I have had me fair share of run ins with these types of idiots. There are few steps the state could take to make this much safer but they could care less.

I know some may not agree .. About 4 months ago my small female GSP growled and snipped at our toddler. So immediately I snatched the dog up and wore her "bleep" out. Now if the baby gets too ruff or the dog doesn't want to be bothered she goes in the other room or lays by me..

I don't know if this would work.. Works Toilet bowl cleaner.. I recently spilled some of this on a oil stain in my garage, when I wiped it up no sign of a oil stain at all. So I would imagine since this stuff is made to get pee stains of toilets it would work..

If it was me I would spend less time driving around and more time burning shoe leather. You aren't likely to just randomly see quail out and about unless there are a lot of birds. I also like to be in the field about an hour or two after daylight. Look for places where edges and food source meet. L...

I am very green as far as hunting wild quail and I need some advice. My GSP is a large build, when in tip top shape he weighs in at 76 or so pounds. At that weight he is all muscle and you can see hip bones and most ribs. So 4 cups is just right in my opinion. Then why did you ask? Your dog is 18 lbs overweight and you want to take some it off. Put your dog on a die...

How to get extra weight off?

With the recent move to Mississippi and the extreme heat of the south I was too lazy and let my GSP get chubby. Right now he is about 18lbs from his normal hunting weight. Besides daily exercise should I also cut his food back? I feed him Diamond HI-Performance and 4 cups a day..

It depends what your definition of bird action... I'm from Ohio and all phez were state released. Release days were like civil war if not worse. You could go out later in the day and it wouldn't be so bad but birds are scarce at best. The state releases birds from November 16 to Thanksgiving and sea...
