Re: New Whelping Pens
Looks like some pigeons on the roof. What kind of setup do you have for them? Nice setup for the pups. I know where you're coming from. Only 20 more years of those 24hr shifts.

Go to www.pigeons.biz Don't tell them that you kill them or you may get death threats of your own.

Re: Is it a homer? Pigeon question
Sounds like a homer to me. I would be careful keeping the other ferals with your known homers if you don't know what they are. You might bend up with who knows what pigeons. I have 5 in my coop now that are loft flying pretty well, but I lost 3 last week for who knows what reason. They circled the h...

Re: How do you occupy your dog's time when they are kenneled?
I agree that she needs more exercise. For the chewing, some of it will go away with exercise and then get some antlers. I had a small rack that I cut one antler off of and gave to her. She finally found the antler that still had the skull plate attatched and that is the one she likes. She has chewed...

Re: Storing Quail
build you a fairly tall johnny house and only put your perches up high so they have to fly up 5 or 6' to see out and get some fresh air. My birds don't like to fly from you too much, but when you get them up, they fly pretty well. They would work really well out of a launcher.

Re: Crating a Puppy
Is there any way you can kennel her during the day? Even if it is just one of the 10x10 chainlink kennels? To break my pup to the crate, I started with a small crate next to the bed for about 2 weeks. Next, I moved it to the other side of the room for a week or two. Lastly, I moved it to another roo...

Re: size issues?
I would make sure the vet gave her a clean bill of health. My 15 week pup is pretty small compared to her litter mates, but they stay in a kennel most of the day and Lilly runs the fields nearly every day. She stays very active and I have to give her about twice what the food bag says to keep weight...

I am getting ready to register my pup and was wandering about naming her. Is it customary to include part of the Dam and Sire's name or just name her what ever I want? Thanks, RF

Just pull the mouthpiece out of the tube and it will freeflow. You need to take it out and clean the tube and mouthpiece anyway or it will grow mold quickly. Especially if you put gatorade in it.

Update, she is now 8 1/2 weeks old and she stays in the crate from 11 PM till 6 AM. She still wakes me up a bit making noises, but if I get up to let her eliminate, she just looks at me funny like why aren't you sleeping? Now I am starting the process of moving her further and further from the bed a...

I'm talking about the outside Kennel run. She does fine in her crate. I think she will just have to grow into the kennel/run. How old do y'all think she should be before staying out there by herself for the day?

Help, puppy hates kennel!
My 8 wk GSP hates her outside kennel. I have tried feeding her in it and she eats and then freaks out. She bounces from side to side and screams to no end. I left her in it for 1 hour after her lunch yesterday and for 1 1/2 hrs after dinner and she never calmed down. Will she get used to it? She doe...

Scared of other Dogs?
My new pup was out in the yard with me today and the dog next door came out barking. It scared her to death and she tucked tail and ran all the way to her kennel. We went for a walk to ease her mind, but everytime she would hear the other dog barking, she would tuck her tail and look that way. We we...

Re: Eliminating at night?
She is only 7 1/2 weeks. She does good when I take her out. She eliminates immediately and I take her straight back to the crate. She doesn't even put up too much of a fuss right now when going back into her crate. I just wanted to make sure that I am not forming a habbit that will last a lifetime.

My new pup is doing good. She got up once Sunday night and twice last night. She goes right back into her crate and hasn't whined long each time. Looking back on my post, I see I left some information out. I do have the ability to heat the closed section and would definitely do that if the temps were down. First, thank y'all for all the great information you provide. Do perches need to be V's? What kind of feeders do coops usually have and where are they placed? Same with water? What is a good source for pigeon coop supplies? Do you need perches and nesting boxes? How tall do nesting boxes need to be?...

Well, since I am getting a GSP pup, I guess I will be raising pigeons as well. What do y'all use for your pigeon coop floor? I don't want to have to scrape the floor daily unless absolutely necessary. Is there a low maintenance way to build a loft/coop?

Ruffshooter, can you give more info on your quail habitat? Do you raise them or just keep captive adults? Are these pens made to allow the birds some flight time? Can you show a pic? How do you take care of the birds? I am new at this, so any information you have will be great. Thanks in advance, RF
