Re: 55 gal plastic drum for horse water at trials
Guess it all depends on how technical you want to get. We carry our H20 vertically in a 55 gal drum in the bed of the truck most of the time. I have been asking hubbie for a valve but he is a tad simple sometimes  I get a siphon hose instead   It works though and filling it back u...

Re: IF YOU COULD GO TO ANY STATE NEXT YEAR UPLAND HUNTING?
We have just about everything a guy could want where I am from but if I could I would love to go to British Columbia to shoot Chukar, Quail, and Wood Ducks. Oregon, Washington, or Idaho would be great but Montana will probably be this fall. I want to shoot a Sage Grouse and have a full body mount do...

Re: New JH....lots of pics
No more pictures like that!! Makes me sad that I will be missing out this year with no dog to test and not able to buy a puppy. Darn Economy and getting laid off!!!!! I love just sitting and looking at all the breeds but my favourite is to volunteer to shoot for the FDX and FD braces. Then I really ...

Re: Supreme Pheasant Slayer Update - Judging Help
I think the preserve birds should count during the time you 2 agreed on unless otherwise stated. Really though if you were going to do it again I wouldnt count preserve birds. Any dog can find those birds they act just like chickens. Wild birds are what you should be counting and only birds shot ove...

Re: pointing labs?
I agree with ya ezzy. If you lived in a cold climate and did alot of pheasant hunting and waterfowl a Pointing Lab would be great. The thick coat would allow the dog to handle the cold temperatures and water.

Re: introducing dog to birds
Right now I wouldnt worry about shooting birds for him. Spend from now until the birds start laying eggs simply running the dog on the birds. If he starts pointing go in, flush the bird, and just let him chase. Once the birds start laying eggs and you cant run your dog on them anymore he should be r...

Re: pointing labs?
I don't know a thing about "pointing labs" but I sure am seeing a lot of folks running labs on the upland prairie. They work just as hard as any other dog. I'm surprised myself, labs don't look like they have the stamina, but they keep up. They cant keep up with pointers. Yes a lab will go when run...

Re: introducing dog to birds
Usually most 1st time dogs will just bust birds. This is a very crucial time in their development IMO. This is the time I let me dogs figure it out for themselves on wild birds. Once the dog has learnt to point and hold point until I can walk up to him I start training. If you must use birds in laun...

Re: City pigeon conundrum
If you have no plans on training with pigeons then just ignore her point. Leash her and keep her walking she will soon figure out pigeons are not game birds so just ignore them.

Re: introducing dog to birds
Dont whoa him and I wouldnt put him on planted birds. Run him on ONLY wild birds until he is pointing and holding point until you can walk up to him. Usually this takes 1 hunting season but it makes for a far more reliable dog. I have seen alot of posts of people asking what they can do to steady th...

Re: Screaming Pup
I kennel trained this dog when she was a puppy and look where she ended up. Hard to tell the old girl now after 9 years of putting birds in the bag she has to sleep on the floor. She has migrated to the spare bedroom bed and seems to like it in there. Dark, cool, and comfy what more could she want. ...

Re: Easiest way to steady a dog without help?
Best thing to do it NOT to let her move. Get her on a pinch collar and walk her up to the bird (have 2 or 3 birds in launchers). When she establishes point let her sit there for a while dont say anything Grab her by the end of the collar and pop the first bird, when she goes to take off she will cor...

Re: "Ruffwear" Swamp Cooler
I think for $50 you could make a water container out of 6" PVC that will tuck underneath the rails of your truck bed. Slope it to the rear of the truck and put a 90 on the end with a screw on cap. This way you can load it full of ice and fill it with water. I have seen a few of them and they look pr...

Re: The Right Training DVD
Most people do just let the dog hunt for themselves calling it or whistling it when they turn or want the dog to come back. I havent seen anyone who walk around all day yelling "whoa" and whistling every time they want the dog to turn. They may be out there but I have never run into them. I dont tal...

Ya I agree scince my guy was little he slept in bed with me. Infact he would demand to be under the cover and if you didnt like it you were getting a cold nose or he would work his way under when you fell asleep.

I forgot to ask you how long did you make the cable ties? Are the ones that connect together to for the actual ground chain longer than the ones used to connect the dog to the ground chain? Or are they all the same length? If so whats the length?

Can anyone tell me who Shellshock Sammy was? I am looking at a breeding that is triple bred (Father is Shellshock sammy bred top and bottom, female is shellshock sammy on the top) dog. Re: Roading
I really like swimming as well. As the dog get into shape they loose the fat and replaces it with muscle. This means the dog is less buoyant and has to work harder as they get into shape helping with conditioning. I dont like for them to swim too far out at first. Generally I will throw a bumper acr...

Bailey, if you can get a cheap roundtrip ticket you can fly in, get your pup, and bring him home under your seat. I am planning on getting a puppy this year and was thinking of trying my hand at field trials with it. I have never competed in a trial before but have done some volunteering at a couple here.
