Re: Tri tronics sport uplang g3 question
Not positive on the sport models, on the G2/3's you turn the collar on then simultaneously press the constant button (while on a number) and the receivers power button.....hold until you hear a 2 quick beeps (+/- 5 seconds), ignore the first long beep. Yep, tried that. No luck. Calling Tri Tronics ...

Tri tronics sport uplang g3 question
Hey all, my g3 is not giving any sort of stim. I changed the batteries in the transmitter and the receiver is still giving a blinking green light when turned on. I recall customer service telling me that sometimes when the charge goes totally dead, the receiver and transmitter need to be reintroduce...

Re: Help! Kansas hunting license.
Problem solved!!! I had bought a license in January of last season. The license is good to the end of the year. The computer system, being way smarter than me, recognized that I already had a license so it didn't give me an option to buy one!! :D Ok, a group DUH is in order! (It took my rookie hunti...

Help! Kansas hunting license.
I just went to the Kansas online hunting license page. After filling out all my personal info I was redirected to the page with all the hunting and fishing licenses...except the basic nonresident hunting license, the one you need to hunt pheasant! Am I doing something wrong? Can someone clue me in? ...

How many hunters with 2nd season GSP
My 2 year old GSP and I are looking forward to his second season (and first REAL season...last year was all for fun). My hunting partner wanted to bring out another one or two hunters other than the two of us. In my typically grumpy way, I complained that three or more hunters would just add confusi...

HUnt young GSP with retrievers
I have an opportunity to hunt some good pheasant property with my one year old GSP. The owner of the land may want to hunt with us. He hunts over labs. I used to hear that hunting a pointer with labs is not a good idea. What should I do in this situation?

Re: Skinny GSP
Weighed him at the vet today. Holding steady at 50 lbs. I was sure he had dropped under. He's been 50 lbs for the last few months. I would think he would have gained a bit given his age (growing/filling out). Guess not.

Re: Skinny GSP
Like I said, it was an older picture and doesn't show how he looks now. It was all I had on short notice. That shot was taken in early Sept. He weighed 50 lbs. We will weigh him today and I'll report back. May try to get a picture as well. ...and no I'm not another owner who wants a fat dog. Sheesh!...

Re: Skinny GSP
He was at the vet a few weeks ago...mild case of kennel cough that I wanted to nip in the bud. Fine now.
He is eating Wellness large breed puppy blend. Wellness (and my vet) recommend feeding that puppy blend to at least 18 months.

My just over 1yr old GSP is barely 50 lbs. (He is also my first GSP so their rate of development is new to me.) His ribs are quite prominent and you can see a bit of his spine when he stands. He has plenty of energy when we go out of the house and seems bright and alert. He just looks awfully skinny...

Re: Purina Pro Plan -> loose stools
Cut him back on the feed a little. Thats generally all you have to do when any animal gets loose. If that doesn't help then you may have bacterial type problem. Ezzy Ezzy, I hear/read a fair bit about loose stool dogs. Do you think on average people overfeed their dogs? I'm feeding mine a total of ...

Purina Pro Plan -> loose stools
My 11 month old GSP has been getting Pro Plan Select chicken and brown rice. He acts just fine and coat looks good too. Only problem is his stools are, well, soft serve ice cream (sorry for the visual). This is only a problem when I am cleaning up after him (e.g., on walks). Any thoughts on this foo...

11 month old marking in the house
My 11 month old male GSP just started marking in the house. Once in my house, once in a friend's. Twice in three days. Of course, he is sneaky about it and does it when I can't see him. If I could catch him I would convince him that the behavior is unacceptable but so far no luck. I DO NOT want this...

Re: Not teaching "sit"??
I have an eleven month GSP that doesn't know how to sit. Breeder (and a separate trainer) said they don't like to teach sit at first. That's new to me. My previous draht knew how to sit at 11 weeks! Easy now Miller, I was just posing a few reasons for having a dog able to sit. I appreciate all the thoughts on this thread. Re: Not teaching "sit"??
To answer "why is there a need to teach a bird dog to sit?" I offer the following. I don't live on a farm, on a bird hunting operation, etc. I live in a suburban neighborhood with all sorts of forms of human contact. A sitting dog is a stationary dog. Sure, standing still should be fine but I think ...

Re: Not teaching "sit"??
What was your previous experience with your DD? Did you have any problems with it sitting on point? Some do and some don't. So what. Go ahead and teach sit, to me it is not that big of a deal unless you are a competition hunter. The most important thing IMO is that the dog finds birds, waits for yo...

Re: New started dog
I thought for a while we would just do walks, swimming in some local lakes, and basic commands. Get him used to his kennel, meet his new vet, and basically live life with me. Low pressure stuff. Then, after a couple of weeks, we may put a few birds over him.

Lots of advice for bringing home the new 7 week old puppy but how about for bringing home a one year old started dog? What should I do to make the transition as smooth as possible? Getting to know the new environment, avoiding any separation anxiety, etc.? Any thoughts would be great.

Re: Dog run question
Thanks for all your comments. GGs, I particularly liked the idea of the pavers. I may try a combination of 4x4s, pea gravel (for drainage) and pavers on top of the gravel.

What would you put down as a "floor" for a dog run? Concrete slab? Gravel? Other? This would be in a suburban back yard.
Thanks!

Question about spaying
I had someone tell me that spaying a female can result in "dribbling" urine on occasion. Any truth to that? I'm considering a female GSP (have always had males before). I will spay or neuter as I am not interested in breeding.
