Re: hunting pheasants in minnesota
For MN pheasants go west young man. Hunt western MN where the WMA's start to become more numerous. My philosophy with hunting WMA's is to cover a lot of ground quickly - ie. be very mobile. The way I've always done it is to pick an area with several WMA's and scout them quickly and then hunt them at...

There is a dog park in Burnsville by Alimagnet Lake. There are some retriever clubs that you could check out to get access to areas to work your dogs. Kelly Farms is another option. With a double trigger O/U, which trigger is normally for the top barrel, or all models different? You want the front trigger to fire the bottom barrel. You want to fire the bottom barrel first because the bottom barrel is more in line with the stock and the recoil from it will be directed more back...

Long answer: easier to find the dog on point; higher tail set means more endurance; style, class, etc. Bottom line - ' cuz it looks nicer.

Has anyone said English Pointer? They are probably the pointing'est dog there is. As long as you stay away from the super high powered breedings as a beginner I'd think you'd stand a high chance of getting a very good gun dog. There's a coverdog pointer litter in MN right now that is priced at over $1000 per pup. I can get a pretty good gsp pup out of FT lines for a fair amount less than that. Obviously there are always exceptions... On average are pointers priced higher in your area? I'm not sure. A FT GSP costs $500+. ...

Too much dog is one that when you are done hunting you realize that you were stressed out the whole time and/or on your dog all the time to keep it where you want it or getting it to do what you want.
