Re: Stud Dog Contract?

I am not a pro, or even have much advice on breeding, although I do have a couple nice dogs available. I will say this though, it would be nice to do the job on just a handshake, but it is also nice when you have something in writing that both of you agree to, and there is no misunderstanding on wha...

Re: Picking "the" pup from the litter

Here is something to think about: I have taken the last pup of the litter 3 times, they are under 2 years of age,3 different litters, and 2 of them I have been offered 9K a piece for. The third hasnt had a chance to strut his stuff yet. IMO I really dont think it makes alot of difference in which on...

Re: Puppy Hip Question

All of my dogs go in a a young age for prelim hip testing. I would rather know before getting thousands in training fees to what I have for a dog on the inside. Although they are not done growing, I think if there is a major issue with your dog, it would be noticable. If your breeder has any kind of...

Re: trainer question

although my dogs are spaniels, the first bit of time at the trainers might be the same. The couple that I have sent at this age generally are on the bench learning obedience, check cord, some light intro to birds, and a little retrieving work. Not much pressure at all. They work with the dogs 6 days...

I agree with omega58. You can buy a used 3k gun that looks like new for 1500 or a new gun for 2000 thats only worth 800 after you leave the stores parking lot

Re: Ivomec ?

Any possible issues with switching to Ivomec? I can get the small bottle at TSC.[/quote] I have just started using a product called "ivermectin equine paste dewormer" and I got this from a well known breeder that has been using it for many years with no problems. It cost me about 2 bucks for roughly...

Hair Loss

I have noticed in the last couple months my springers are losing more hair than normal. Their crates are covered, a ride in the truck leaves it all over the seats and my clothes. My Vet said the oldest had dry skin(4), so have been bathing him with a different shampoo, and his fur seemed more like a...

Re: Off to trainer

I have had a couple dogs that go to training early (7-9 months) and a few that I have waited until they are over 1 year old. The dogs that went earlier, in my eyes needed a job to do earlier than the others did to help keep them out of trouble. I really dont know how to explain it but some just seem...

Re: Need help talking wife into another dog

I have found that it is sometimes easier to ask for forgiveness. I have also used the "just socializing" trick a few times. Once the pup gets in the door for a week or two, it will probably be a done deal....Good luck

Ivermectin

I have always used heartgaurd for my springers, and was recently talking to a breeder who uses a 1.87% ivermectin equine paste in small doses in place of the heartgaurd. Has anyone used this type of product? They have been using this for years with good luck, but while reading the packaging for the ...

Re: medium sized dog

I'll second the second on field trial cockers or springers in the home. I have 5 that live in the house with me, and I couldnt be happier. Although they are energetic, with a little excersise they settle down pretty quickly. 8)
