Re: My new mutt Sadie...

Yes I'd like to hunt with her. I am active duty air force right now and the deployments keep me gone for chunks of the years and seasons that I can't avoid, so who knows when I'll get time. But for now she is doing well with obedience, and she trails scents very well. Just been using chunks of ham o...

Re: Yard and Dogs?

will grass not grow in the sectioned off part? you could always throw down some oats... they'll grow like wildfire and be similar to grass basically. My dad always uses oats when we move dirt in our yard since it just takes off so fast. The darn rabbits love the stuff too, and our dog loves to chase...

Re: Will the cold EVER end! - Setter hunt pics.

Coldest I've hunted was about -20 with no wind chill, just plain cold. It is pretty normal in interior alaska. Lots of trappers go out every day in -50 with dog sleds and such. Coldest I've been outside at work was -52... big hangar door was frozen in its tracks and I had to break ice and shovel sno...

Places to ride/camp in Kansas

Hey all, I'm still up in the frozen north of Alaska right now but not far off I'll be moving down to Wichita. Just wondering if there will be any places to ride quads and park a camper within an hour or so of that area. I have utility quads and just like to do some trail riding and such, just wonder...

Re: Gunner

Sorry you lost that beautiful dog. He sure looks like he was having fun. My dog used to always get so excited when I came home on leave, since he stayed with my folks, up until he passed. Dogs love is truly unconditional.

Sincerely,
schmidty

Re: Lost a Great friend today.

Sorry for your loss, and the excess grief that has been caused. My old house dog passed last summer and I still think about him all the time. I had been moved out of the folks house for nearly five years but whenever I would come home to visit old Beau would check my bed for a few weeks to see if I ...

Re: Choosing a pointing breed...

Thanks for all the positive and helpful comments guys, lots of good info. Keep them coming too if you have something else for me. Yeah I kinda over do it with the research and stuff but I just want to be sure before I pick a friend for life that we'll have the same idea of fun. I don't want to buy a...

Re: Choosing a pointing breed...

Ok so since it seems my cats should be ok, which of these breeds makes a better foot hunter. English Pointer, GSP, Weimaraner? I think I'm going to stick to those three breeds. There seems to be lots of English Pointer breeders near Wichita or at least within an hour or two. Haven't seen as many GSP...

Choosing a pointing breed...

Hi all, new here. I am originally from Iowa, now in the military in Alaska and hold orders to Kansas. I'm looking forward to being back in the midwest and hunting birds and feel that I can finally devote time to a bird dog. I'm going to buy a home, hopefully with lots of ground but I will do that be...
