I have had my best luck recently. I have a cordless dremmel I keep in back by the dog kennel. When we get to training grounds I do them quick. Dog is so geared up they don't fight because they know when done they get to run.

Beautiful Setters! That second one reminds me of a buddies first Setter. Before that all we had were farm mutts, Labs and a GSP. When everyone got a few drinks in them they would torment Ray about his beautiful Dalmatian! Crap like man I thought they just rode on fire trucks...I didn't know they hun...

Hutch's Motel

I have read on a few websites that if your going to SD and doing a hunt for yourself this is the ideal place to basecamp. Reasonable, very clean and good food. Now their websites are down....anyone know what happened?

Check out their youtube channel and facebook. At the beginning of COVID they were doing an hour everyday on answering questions and showing training situations. Incredibly generous in my opinion/

It would be fairly likely to pass. The gun lobbys don't care about hunters and the population is going more toward neutral on hunting. It is relatively easy for anti hunters to get the neutrals on their side. It would seem like it would be hard to pass in a state like Oregon. We give the anti hunte...

Well I could be wrong, I often am. But i know with every new dog that comes into my life I use a lot less force in general training than the dog prior. I would hope that's due to understanding dogs better and not worse... When you compete with a dog it's different, or if you're getting paid to trai...

Purely an amateur and I have only forced fetched one dog... She was soft and wouldn't retrieve anything and she clearly knew fetch and give etc... Thanks for all the replies. GPS seems like overkill to me for the number of times I deal with the situation. Glad it works for others just if I was going spend that I would go to South Dakota to hunt...will keep working. Thanks again!

I agree! I don't normally need it but heavy cover and goes on point in milo impossible to find. I think the biggest challenge we have is the fact that when I was a kid even if your Dad didn't hunt he found somebody at work he trusted and you tagged along. I think the biggest challenge is people tend to keep quiet about there hunting unless the know the are around other hunters.

I hunt a Vizsla so I feel your pain. Early season real difficult but I have bought the reflective color and used bells. My hearing sucks too so bell is hard to hear in thick cover. Beeper may be best choice.

Stole this idea from someone on this board i believe...throw treats into the grass and then bring them in the area. I they begin working scent and finding the treats tell them hunt dead. Just a couple of times and the will learn to get their nose to the ground.
