Have had a CZ Ringneck 28 ga for three years. Love it!! Usually use it as a back up gun on Texas quail. Pulled it out to use on some Kansas pheasants on a controlled shooting area last week and had great luck with it. Lots of fun to shoot.

I have both the Dogtra 2502 and the DT 2432. I agree with Ray that the buttons on the DT are harder to identify by touch. Alex..We are headed to Lincoln on Oct 15. Will hunt for three days and go to Eureka to check out the Nationals and pick up a dog I've had in North Dakota for the Summer. As I mentioned earlier, the Hungry Hunter in Lincoln has some good " home cookin". Will be back for four days during Thanksgiving....

Agree with Big Steve. You are still in control when your dog is steady to wing. Your in control if you take the shot or not. That is why it's important for me not to hunt with "meat hunters" but with "dog people". Hunting quail in Texas, a crippled bird can be in a hole in two seconds. Not sticking ...

Headed to Lincoln, Ks in a few weeks. A friend tells me pheasant numbers seem to be down some but quail numbers are up. I would think you'd get into birds...but would also like to hear from someone from the great state of Kansas.

In my opinion, if you want a beeper function (which I like) get a DT. Have been using one for three years( heavy use, two dog unit) with no problem. Love the "jump and rise function". Beeper is a deep tone and easily heard and controlled from the transmitter. Dogtra a good second choice. If a beeper...

Try Pete Thuman. He is outside of Houston. He has helped me in the past "break" my pointing dogs but works mostly on retrievers. Hard worker, good results, a no sonsense kind of guy..Hope this helps..His # is 281-375-6597. You would need to call for an appointment. He stays pretty booked.

You might want to try Drs Foster and Smith. They have a "memory" foam bed that is less than Orvis, but much more than Wal Mart. Don't know if they come in a large size..That pointer is so good looking I'd let him sleep on anything he wanted too.

I also had some issues with Native (and I was having it shipped from Kansas City). Went back to Eukanuba and am very satisfied. (Don't know if Euk is considered by some as a "juiced up kibble"...and really don't care)

I've got to agree with Charlie..Take it slower and bond with the pup and let him be a pup. You might also want to think about locating and joining a local retriever club and get involved. Could be a great source of information, encouragement and friendship.
