flea and tick treatment
my cousin just bought some Sentry (red box) flea and tick treatment (topical), anyone use it or have any experiences with it. With the recent pay cut, inflation etc its time to switch to a more economical solution compared to the big name stuff. I know you get what you pay for but there has to be so...

Re: GSP Skin Problem
the scabs are not in a symmetrical pattern, they seem to be haphazard and different sizes. this has been going on now for a few weeks. it doesnt appear to be getting worse quickly, other than I found one on her head today, but I could have missed it before. As I said, I found a few on my other two d...

Thanks all. This def has been very frustrating. She is 4+ yrs old. I'll try to get some pics. She still eats etc and is not acting funny at all. this did not appear after any topical flea treatment ( I use K9 Advantix) nor was there any switch in anything I normally give, ie heartworm, food etc. My ...

Advantix alternative
I've been using Advantix exclusively for 5 yrs now and only found 2 ticks on the 3 dogs in that amount of time. I'm not in a heavily tick infested area, we have them here and there, but for whatever reason they are not as prevelant here. anyway, is there a cheaper alternative to the advantix? If I'm...

anyone think there is any correlation between the f/t preventative that we use and increased cancer rates, or early forms of cancer in our dogs? just curious....I always start thinking like this when I start using it from now til next winter....maybe I over think things too much.... last weekend my 3 yr old male gsp decided to munch a downed bird instead of retrieve. He has a fairly strong retrieve. Could this behavior have someting to do w/ hunting him with my 4yr old male....I notice when I have them all out playing fetch and romping around, he will dominate the other dogs to...

I had a post a few months ago titled "Blinking", this led to an in field evaluation by AHGSP (Bruce) who helped me identify the issue w/ this 20 month GSP bitch......please refer to that post to find out what happened. I've been attempting to de-sensitize her to the gun using a .22 rifle w/ caps and...
UPDATE: Ruby is doing ALOT better......Using Don's method of walking along and firing a blank 22 rifle near the ground.....I'm careful to wait until she is out at 40-50 yards hunting and pre-occupied....about half the times I fire she comes back to me but very briefly....then leaves again to search/...

Now w/ the time change it will be difficult to fly my pigeons as often as I'd like too....I was flying them everyday, even if it was just from the loft.....but leaving at dark for work, and getting home at almost dark how can I get them enough exercise? Not to mention the weather turning (wind, rain...
Thanks for typing the report Bruce, I just got back in.... I agree CR, I should have done more homework on the breeder, which I'm not blaming for this......at this point I blame myself...I have learned a lot in the few short years I've been doing this and will not purchase another dog w/o more research..... thanks for your help.... does anyone know of a pro...
Don, when we pheasant hunted last year, she pointed a few birds on her own, and backed.....generally she wasnt the lead dog out finding birds, she did not retrieve any....she is definetly not a strong retriever......she does have a heck of a nose and for such a small dog can run very hard and cover ...
I think Don is starting to zero in on something here.....the time she did point that wild grouse there was no season.....it was one of our "walks" and it just so happened that every thing was a good situation, wind, scent, the bird held....and she pointed and held.....I did not however have a gun so...
I know she has pointed scent.....as I stated, on wild grouse.....yes I have seen her point quail and pigeons.......multiple times.....I've never roughed her up around birds.....nothing that I knew to be rough anyway......another thing I'll mention....when I take her w/ my other dogs....she runs wild...
I dont remember me ever using the e-collar w/ her around any birds, I've been (am) careful of that....I only use the collar to reinforce commands ("come") I never did whoa train her, she always did whoa herself and held her points.....of my 3 dogs she pointed right off the getgo....she is the only d...
