I just need to know.... what did you do to/for your wife to get her so sweet and compliant to agree to another mutt? (more to the point - does it work on husbands??) Husbands are easy. Answer the door naked. Bring beer  Wives are tricky... I'd have to do an awful lot of repairs around the hou...

To the best of my knowledge, it's illegal up here & i nWis as well (I'm willing to be corrected). My v chased his first deer the other day. We were walking along a mowed path in the woods, the dog was zipping back & forth across the path about 10-15 yards ahead of me, I was daydreaming... Then I see...

This kind of justifies the high price for hunting dogs, just to keep out the riff-raff. Not saying that to sound snooty (an inheritance paid for my dog). But one would surmise that the big pricetag would ensure serious buyers, although that could backfire as well (status symbols, etc..). Anyway, it ...

There's a club here in Il that is open to the public (no annual fees), & last I checked, they charge $18.00 a bird, three bird min on the weekends, two min weekdays. Here is a good database for preserves http://www.gamebirdhunts.com/us-hunting/Illinois.asp If you scroll to the bottom, you can link to...

NEV, My pup has had that same pheasant toy several times over. They all have been decapitated. Each time, he would play with it for a while, then lay down with it & proceed to "pluck" it while softly & pathetically whimpering! The last two shots (last one's a duck) really capture how sad & pathetic ...

Try Silver Springs. That's right by you in Yorkville, off of Rt 47. There's a dog training area over there by the trap range. See website below for permit info. Also try Des Plaines Conservation Area. It's a little further, but much larger, & there are always hunt clubs doing field trials on the wee...

Like CC, & Ironhorse, I've lately been "hiding" on my dog. Problem is, he's 17 mos old, & very comfortable running big. I may be too late with this scheme, although the couple of times I've tried it recently @ the forest preserves have yielded the result I was after. It takes a minute or two, but he...

I'll second the DT H20 series. The first six or so levels are pretty mild, but from there it can get hot quick. The only thing I wish was different is the contacts. They seem awfully long to me. We "rescued" him about 10 years ago, but he was so head shy that he was pretty much ruined for bird or gun work, He's going blind but still has plenty of energy & spirit to dominate the pup evry now & then. On hot days ( or long runs ) I will take a squirt bottle, hold his muzzle from the bottom, stick the squirt bottle in the side of his mouth & gently squirt water in. Nolimit,
Try these guys. They're across the street from GAT guns in Dundee.
www.mcgrawwildlife.org/main.taf?p=5
And if you've never been to GAT, you might want to go! They're on Rt 25, between 90 & 72, by the (now closed) Santa's Village.

Thats why my dog & I have an agreement. Until I can smell the birds better than him, he finds 'em, I shoot 'em.h20fwlkillr wrote: There was a covey of 8 quail that I had walked thru when planting and I hadn't seen them, but my dogs found them.

Vaseline
I just took Zoomie out to the woods, & its about 8 degrees out... When we were done, there was pink ice stuck to the backs of his legs from his poor "boys".
I've heard that one can put vaseline on a dog's genitalia to protect them from abrasions. Does this really work, & does it help with the cold?
