The chukar numbers are down and a bad hatch this spring. The good thing is we had good carry over so there will be birds to hunt.

Nevada Chukar Season

The Nevada chukar season opens tomorrow. My PL Carter has been retired, it is always sad when a fine dog gets to this stage, but I sure have some great memories of chukar hunting with him. So, we move on and the 2 setters will be on the ground for the next 4 months doing what they love.

I use line cook cooking mats and put a blanket on top. It has worked well for my dogs.

I started hunting upland birds with a flushing lab, then went to a pointing lab ("bleep" I love that dog) for the past 5 years I have hunted over the PL and English Setters. My days of being a lab owner are coming to a close. I love hunting over these English Setters. How was your journey?

We finished our chukar hunt today with BBQ'd elk burgers and bighorn sheep sausage. What a great way to end a good hunt. Good news, :D the little dog was on her blanket when I got on the ridge. She was scared, cold and hungry but other than that she is in good shape. I already had a conversation with the owner on what needs to be done. This made my day!!! I’m taking the rest of the day to help my wife make tamales. :)

The sad thing is I knew there was an issue with this dog and I had a second astro collar in my truck I could have put on the dog. I wasn't hunting over to dog but I could have found it with a bit of time, just makes me sick. :(

The youngster is not mine and it had an ecollar on, however the handler didn't check the collar before putting it on the dog (I always check mine) it appears that it was not working.
