Re: Retrieving Stakes in Pointing Dog Trials

I am not going to debate marking here. Different topic for a different time. The point was you can't judge retrieving if you don't expect your own danged dog to do it or even know what it would or should look like. I hunted with AKC rep this past fall. He shot a bird that was wounded. Had my POS ret...

Re: Horrible Beahvior Away from Home

I never disregarded that statement. I just wonder why people will put all kinds of stuff in a dog crate once they demonstrate they cannot handle that. Big enough for stand up, turn around and lay down and no more. Water bucket with a small amount of water. Thats it. If the crate is warm and dry, no ...

Re: Retrieving Stakes in Pointing Dog Trials

Why in the h e double hockey sticks would you not want a bird dog to mark the flight of a bird? I have never, ever been able to figure that one out. How does that make for a higher class bird dog? Re: Retrieving Stakes in Pointing Dog Trials

Where I run the majority of my trials there are a fair mix of all breeds at the AKC events. Some VERY good ones in each breed. Some of them welcome retrieving stakes regardless of the breed requirement. I have seen britts, pointers, setters of various breeds all participate in retrieving stakes. Som...

Re: Retrieving Stakes in Pointing Dog Trials

Why have a bird dog that won't go get the danged bird after I shoot it? ANy breed for that matter. The whole point of a hunting companion is to help you fill your game bag. That is part of the equation. Sorry. I don't see why you would have a bird dog trial WITHOUT the retrieving. I hate callbacks a...

I disagree. I would go in and correct the whining as often as possible. Try a spray bottle. Try tying a long lead to the crate adn giving them a crate quake. They can't see you make the correction.

It does work.

AKC young dog stakes can be a very good thing. Just understand what your risks and gains are and be prepared to address either. You can lose way more than you gain if you are not careful. Lots of caught birds, grabbie woth the bracemate, tagging, etc. Just protect YOUR dog the best you know how.

Watrer, water, water is biggest impact to a greener lawn. When a lawn is stressed from lack of water, then pee and poo will "burn" the grass. Light watering in the morning and evening are the best way to curb this. If you can.

Thats why you don't see the pee spots when it rains a lot.
