John, I step back a bit on my stand because of we aren't sure what the judges saw. But this type of thing still concerns me that two judges in a small bird field, most bird fields you see in HT are 5 acres maybe up to 7, failed to see the honoring dog take the retrieve. After the honoring dog stoppe...

Ditto for what Larue says. Bad deal all the way around. Negative judging is a bad deal. So is the bird field, single course without a birdfield is a muach better way to do things. Don't see it too often becasue clubs might have a tough time finding enough adequate gunners or might just be downright ...

Even if noone from the board is there have fun meeting other new people. Usually a pretty good bunch at FT. Just make sure you go out and meet some people as it has been ...

My International dues expire this may and I am not renewing. This isn't saying that there still aren't some great people in NAVHDA, I have met some very good friends over the years in our local chapter. I also think for a first time dog owner/trainer, it can be a great starting point IF they fall in...

I'm glad the first trial went well. Sounds like your attitude to wanting to help made you fit right in. Every club always can use some extra manpower and is usually greatly apperciated. I don't want to here the details of "the underhanded" things but they do occur at times, which is a shame becasue ...

Brenda I agree all the way. That new NAVHDA "Avoidance" training is fast, productive, but just the wrong way to do things. The dogs being breed by certain individuals that promote this are dogs that can take alot of pressure in training. In getting these dogs I think they are progressing away from t...

Allister I agree, just can't wait to get more. All my money goes toward the dog though! John Humor is always apperciated. But there is at least on guy that was in thh club that did exactly that, sold his FC, other dogs, training gear, the works, and got a scooter instead. Last I heard he is pretty h...

You could also "break her in" to riding in a vehicle by taking a few short trips every now and then, so she will get used to riding in a vehicle. I agree. Growing up will help too. When my GSP was young he was a fright in a vehicle no matter what we did. But with some caution, exposure, and age he ...

People need to quit making excuses for this guy, his poor judgement, and his careless gun handling ablility. John I knew the first AKC GSPCA trial was held in Anoka, I believe 1944 or maybe 1945. I had inquired with the AKC once about the results of this trial but they couldn't tell me anything. I'm sure if I would have pushed harder someone there could have gotten me the results. I think it would be nice ...

I agree with Rob, I'm kinda partial to the white/liver look but still think black is very striking. I have seen some darn decent black gsp dogs in the field that were put together very nicely (from my limited confirmation understanding). Maybe the fear of the black dog in the show ring is what drive...

My 3 yr old GSP eats 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 cups of Pro Plan Performance twice a day. The only time I have to reduce it is in the dead of winter when he sits on my couch all day. I would worry more about how the dog responds to a certain food than the amount of calories/cup it contains. Individual dogs prefe...

A weim attacking something, interesting. I was judging a SH test and was awaiting dogs at the line. I am looking for a closer ranging bird dog to compliment the Pointer, I have. Just doing research now. I'd look at a well bred GWP that has some trial blood along with some NAVDA blood. My closeworking GWP is a great compliment to my wider ranging GSP. It's kinda fun hunting them both together. Bes...

Rob is right on the money about a good triainer being a bargain. It can seem tough to shell out that money but often times it ends up being cheaper than the years it can take an amateur to do this. A good alternative may be to find your local NAVHDA club. Most of them have a wealth of experience in ...
