This one should be chalked up to the "things kids say."

Re: What?!!!
If I would have spoken to another adult like that as a teenager, especially an unprovoked one who was trying to offer a compliment, I would have been in a world of hurt when my dad got me home...assuming it wasn't done on the spot! I'm sure your son is a fine, intelligent young man but my 15 year o...

Re: Looking for a good breed
From what i have seen is that the black labs are a bit more hyper than the other labs. Maybe it’s because all the black labs that i have seen come from hunting bred lines. And my lab (chocolate) comes mainly from a show bred line and is much more easy going. But when we start working he is at full s...

Re: Pup wont pick up dead quail
I took Baron(10months) to the farm this weekend to introduce him to the 12gauge and some birds. Started at a distance and worked our way closer. The closer he came the more excited he got. Had no problems at all not even a flinch. We then went out into the field in search of birds me and Baron walki...

Re: Barbed Wire
I am the one who got stuck in the barb and lost a good shirt. Baron was already through and was giving me some encouragement. I figured that he would learn it on his own but i think it can happen that it surprises a dog the first time they encounter it and looses an eye etc. And some of those barbed...

Barbed Wire
Just wondering how your dogs handle barbed wire? Because we often climb through the barbed wire fence to get to another field. He(Baron) got introduced to the barbed fence this weekend and he climbs under but catches the barb but it only pulls out hair and it looks like he doesnt even realize. But h...

Re: Out in the field
Thanks. He is quite a masculine lab. He(Baron) only started retrieving about a month ago. From when i got him he would never fetch anything or run after a toy etc. if you threw it for him. I was worried but heard some of the labs would only develop the retrieving instinct at a later stage. And was i...

Out in the field
Took my boy out to the farm for his first intro to water. And he got in straight away. He is 8 1/2 months. He swam like a pro and fetched the training dummies perfectly. Even tossed one dummy in as far as i could and he turned around and looked at me if saying "are you serious?" and i told him to fet...

I only feed him dry dog food(Hills). And throw supplements over his food which the vet gave me. His coat is shiny but the last week i had realized that he has dry skin. But im not reading too much into it but still just keeping a eye out if problem develops. I doubt we will get Animal Naturals K9 Sh...

It is the change of season where i am from. Start of winter so i guess it is the reason.

I don't think it is chronic but would keep an eye out for it.
Thanks...

Re: Crate Insanity
I have no idea what your full day is like , but when i hear "crate at home, crate at work", I'm wondering how much time is he in the crate. It could be that by evening pup is saying, "That's it! No more crate!". Is pup getting out for good exercise several times a day? Are there times when he just ...

Re: Crate Insanity
So why is this crate reaction so different from the one at home? I only use one crate so i don't know whether it could be that. But the enclosed crate shouldnt be a problem. Maybe its because he spends more time in the crate at work than the one at home. And he has become very comfortable with the ...

Oh... My... God... Last night, I said, "Let's start the crate thing at night." I'm an idiot... a complete idiot. This is something you need to start on a weekend. I keep my pup in a crate where i can hear him. And he woke me at night the first week to go out and do his thing. But then he got used to the feeding patterns and i always let him out before putting him in his crate and after eating. So now he doesnt moan or anything through the night until the time...

Labrador Puppy
Hello i am new to the forum and recently became a owner of a lovely chocolate lab. I went hunting with my brother in law with his GSP and was hooked from that day on. And decided to get me a retriever. My puppy is 3months old and sitting and staying as told. But when commanded it first walks up to m...
