Re: Dog not "going with" me

Not going with me. It’s highly overrated IMO. As long as the dog points and holds birds til you get there they are hunting for you. My dogs range 300 yards in woodcock cover. I love it. That’s why they wear an Astro. Let the dog hunt and figure out where the birds are without you interfering

Re: Tips for getting a dog to hunt in thick brush

Letting young pups chase birds builds there desire to hunt and find birds. Lay off using collars and keep your mouth shut except for praise. Let pup learn his natural breeding traits that is hunting and pointing. You can’t teach this. Forget about any formal training first year

Re: Shooting Over Running Dogs

I don't know how you can say staunch dog's are the key to successful bird hunting. As long as the dog is steady to flush, that's all the average guy needs or wants. There are far more birds killed every year over dog's that are only steady until the flush than over broke dog's. Why? There ain't many...

Re: Finding my young pup some wild birds

I disagree with most. You need to bring out the pups natural breeding. That is pup needs to learn to hunt, point and find birds. You can't teach this. Wild birds bring this out in pup. All you need to do is get pup used to the gun shot and come when called. After a season of shooting wild birds then...

[quote="gonehuntin'"]I hunt VERY big country for grouse and if you have a dog that goes much over 100 yards, you make so much noise getting to the dog the bird flies. This makes zero sense to me. Birds fly off when hunters are over 100 yards away walking thru brush. But birds hold when hunters are w...

The filson has 2 faults in my opinion. No dedicated water bottle holder that you can get to easily for dogs. And that belt is not a load bearing type belt to have all the weight on your hips. That belt is just to keep the front pockets strapped in
