Re: Wolf or Coyote???
It is hard to tell from a single photo. In the next frame it could look entirely different... cameras are funny that way. I hear ya! In the old days of film cameras, I once snapped a pic of a beautiful young girl lounging at pool side at a resort. When I got the film back, I was shocked to see it w...

Re: Breeding...? Father X Daughter
In breeding, the first rule should be to find and breed, "Best to Best". This applies to all aspects, natural ability, physical confirmation, temperament, range, ect. The second rule should be, once two candidates are found, "do they compliment each other"? Since no specimen is perfect, do the two i...

Re: chicken wire in dog kennel to keep from diging
If you look close, you can see the 2x4" Hog wire under the gravel here. We put 6" of gravel over the wire. There hasn't been any odor problem at all. Just be sure you have enough gravel.

Scott..with everything you've done to protect him, you may want to have a couple vents at the top of the dog house that you can open on the milder nights..say 20's or warmer. Then, close them when it's really cold. Heated mat and all, he could get too warm.
Sounds like a very nice setup!

It would be a fine substitute but, chukar is a light colored or white meat. Forest grouse are "darker" and Sage grouse are dark like venison.

Maybe I can tell you about that one amazing bitch - Ferpie This was in around 1954. The bitch was kept in the back half of the wooden garage. A wooden divider and a wooden door made up her kennel bed with an exit to a gravel run. I kept a dozen rabbits in a hutch back in the far end of our property...

A September hunt. After missing the opener of the SG hunt, I anxiously awaited our turn to hit the mountain. We left the house around 6:00 and the temp was 22 degrees. I was thrilled with the major cool down, knowing the dogs would be able to run much longer! Living so close to the Mountain (about 4...

Re: Male vs Female...performance?
Having males neutered before they're 18 months to 2 years old definitely has an affect on growth. Bones in the legs will grow longer and muscles will not develope as defined as they would when left intact. There is no affect what so ever on hunting desire or ability from neutering but, best to allow...

Re: Having problems getting motivated after losing a GREAT one..
Hang in there! I've been through this and it's rough! In 2003, I lost what I believed was my "once in a lifetime" dog. He was everything I'd hoped he'd be and at the young age of three, I lost him to a very rare form of cancer. Needless to say, I was devastated. I really didn't even want to keep the...

It was "Deer Hunt" 1971. My Step Dad's family had gathered down in Flat Canyon (Central Ut) for the annual week long hunt. Opening day saw 4 nice bucks taken down low in the Juniper covered foothills just above the alfalfa fields. Yes, it was going to be a memorable hunt for sure! About 4:pm the sec...

Old Dogs I Have Known
I remember..it was a warm Saturday afternoon in September, 1964 when Dad came home with a beautiful, liver/roan male Gsp. "Fritz" was 18 months old at the time and man, what a looker! He had a large frame, with gorgeous confirmation, and a gait that was soothing to the eye. Dad said he was out of "f...

I am taking them up on the 1850, if nothing else as a backup. I figured my innotek was gone so I put it on the dashboard of my truck with the windows closed in Texas for 2 days. Willie...what you have is very good. The only thing I think you could do to improve when you move is..build a small "out building"/ feed room just large enough for your kennels to butt up to. Then install dog doors (k-9 Kondo) and have your dog houses inside the building. Better for foul weather and...

"The Hunt"...or "the Take"?
For many folks..the hunt just isn't successful unless birds are brought to bag. I used to feel this way myself until a few years ago. Now days, my "best hunts" are those that satisfy me in other ways. Just being in Nature seems to be the most enjoyable part for me. Of course, this includes having th...

This is our kennel set-up. It's worked out great. The fenced in area is designed as a back-up enclosure in the event the dog(s) should escape the kennel. The gravel is for keeping their feet in "hunting condition" year round. They spend a lot of time free running in this enclosure. The kennel panels...

This is where the inconsistency comes into play. Lower quality raw materials will in fact have an effect ...
