Phil,
I am very sorry to hear this. Fine was a great dog. I am glad I had a chance to hunt with her. Tell Gayla Natalie and I are sorry.

September in ND
Just got back from North Dakota about 8 pm last night. Had a great week, saw a ton of birds, shot my first triple ever on any kind of birds, got some very good dog work. Brought back 12 sharptails and 6 huns for consumption at home. This is from the evening I shot the triple. 6 total sharptails and ...

Re: Prairie bird hunting tips
I have a question for you all. In trips to Nd the past three years, I have refrained from hunting alfalfa fields or started winter wheat fields because I considered them unharvested crops and wanted to be on the safe side with the land owners. We did this even though we knew the grouse were in there...

Re: Creating New Possibly Contraversal GSP Webpage Need INPUT
The she I referred to is the breeder of your Belle, Mrs. Sweeney. Your gender is not important to me nor did I try to infer it was one or the other. Here is where I have a beef with those who want to pretend they have DK's by using the Google translation. I am well aware of what Deutsch Kurzhaar tra...

Re: Creating New Possibly Contraversal GSP Webpage Need INPUT
So I visited your site thinking that in order to really be able to give an opinion on DK's that you should own one and go through the testing before comparing the two. Then I clicked on Belle's pedigree and thought well maybe she does own a DK, as both parents were from DK litters. I have to admit t...

Re: Tail Docking
The vet should do it where you tell them to. Most vets have no idea what the standard is on tail docking for pointing breeds, they just take a guess and chop. If you leave it to them to decide, you'll end up with a short little stub of a tail.

Re: Question about GSP
I own a solid black male. Hunt him and test him quite extensively. I am going to take a little different stance on this issue. Most people tend to dismiss any dicussion about solid black GSP's as selection by color, and I view that as de-selecting by color. There are very good dogs that happen to be...

Congrats. It builds confidence to know that your dog can do the work and to have others excited about your dogs performance.
Let me know if you come up this year. I have a VGP 1 dog that I would like to do that with, and I am here in KY.

Southeast Region Derby - DKV
On March 31st, we will be holding a Derby in Somerset, KY. Anyone interested in checking out a DK test is welcome to come observe, and we also have room for a few more entries if there are some DK owners who have yet to find a test to enter.

I've been involved in two startup chapters, Mid-South (then Mid-TN) and the App Valley Chapter. The best option IMO is to start as a sub-group under an exisitng NAVHDA chapter until you have a critical mass of 10-15 members. The insurance premiums are one of the major costs for a startup chapter, an...

My current arsenal consists of a Mossberg 835 that is about 8 or 9 years old and a Baikal OU that I paid $250 and is starting to show some significant wear. Bruce, I think that is an excellent point. I have never quite understood why there is so much discussion about price of puppies, and it seems it is an especially hot topic with GSPs. From a potential future breeders perspective, if the difference between $500 and $800-$1,000 make that much of a diff...
