When you own a dog that points and pins the dogs down there wouldnt be a need for a "herding" type approach/dog.

Some of the best bird dogs had absolutely NO confirmation, what the heck does is matter? All of your talk of angulation, confirmation, etc means nothing if the dog cant find birds. So who really cares?

It surely doesnt hurt to kill em, although they are WAY down on the list of TOP PREDATORS. Coyotes actually rank below man. Ferral cats, possums, and coons have a much larger effect on wild bird populations.

I hardly ever use fruit wood and all my meat recieves rave reviews. I use hedge, walnut, hickory, and oak all the time. A couple of years ago I actually quit using charcoal and grill will wood exclusively.

If my quail have enough food and water for the length of time I'm going away, I don't have one problem leaving them for a week since I know they don't have the size to break my pen and get out. You obviously have never raised quail. They can get out of anything no matter how good of a pen you have ...

The handler wasnt saying "whoa" but screaming to the heavens "MY DOG HAS HOLES IN IT AND I DONT TRUST HIM!" If I was judging it surely wouldnt impress me. This is a team sport and you have to judge both the handler and the dog. Sometimes the dogs hate that fact.

There is plenty of walk-in ground around to choose from. Some better than others obviously. Get yourself a map and start driving. The further from Topeka you get the less pressure you will find. I train with a wonderfully succesful AA amatuer on a regular basis, funny how he buys plenty of birds from me and has more johny houses than dogs. (thats quite a few BTW) I have met tons of folks that "seemed" to know what they are talking about, although the proof is in the proverbial pudding. :roll:

Get real, I have a 200.00 trailer that is towed behind a $1000 truck. My horses are cared for better than most people that have those $30k trailers. They arent they expensive, but they do have their cost's.

they sure are fun. Not to brag at all, but you should come to my place. I just finished my 6th and final hatch of quail of the year, 1,500 eggs a piece. Dont be envious though, they eat about 800 lbs of feed a month :roll: . I cant wait till trial season to start selling some!

I drilled a hole in the side of a feed pan so that I could run an electrical wire through it to power a 60 watt light bulb. Then I turn it upside down and place a 2 gallon metal fountain waterer on top of it. Hasnt failed me yet.

I keep light on mine year round. Make sure you have good feed, clean water, and oyster shell helps to promote good egg health.

I have sold dogs to hog hunters for the exact purpose of breeding to enhance the noses of their hog dogs. I see nothing wrong with it. If I had a cull right now I would be more than happy to help. Poo Poo all the naysayers, they just dont know what they dont know.

I am with birddogger, cant see the dust I guess. These are animals folks and we are suppose to outlive them. I guess when you treat them like a commodity and a means to and end you dont get attatched like some, but even as a child I never did because I understood the cycle of life I guess.
