Re: How Many Of You Run "Naked"? Why And How?
It depends on the dog. I have an old Setter that I have run "naked" for the past 5+ years. I know I cant lose him, never have and he is as steady on his birds as they come. He doesnt try to get away with stuff. On the other hand I have a 3.5 yr old pointer that I wouldnt feel comfortable turning loo...

I personally wouldn"t waste my time unless I was confident the dog had the "other right tools" to make the grade. I would take em hunting for the first year. Good idea myerstenn. I always wait till the dog is about three years old. This allows the dog to go through the breaking process and have a c...

Distance doesnt really matter, once the dog establishes point/game they need to stay put. This doesnt matter if its 2 ft or 50ft. Creeping is a killer on hunts. Sounds like your dog has a great nose though.

The weather channel says it's not even going to hit 100' between now and Monday. Around here (SW Missouri) it gets a little over 100' and doesn't rain for two weeks and people start crying, saying the appocolypse (sp?) is coming. We lived in Las Vegas one year when it almost tipped 120'. Now, that'...

Being a stay at home dad with a bird farm allows me to train all of my own. I couldn't see paying someone to do what I am fully capable of doing myself. Granted, my situation is different than most, plus I have one heck of a little helper with two more up and coming when they get older.

There is obvously something "critically" missing from your arguments. Thinking isnt missing although understanding of what you are against. Best advice would be to gather some first hand knowledge and DO IT, pontification with no facts only leads to a baseless argument that no one will agree with.

Get rid of the coons, put the bobs down, and put 95% of the feed in the trap. Hungry birds will walk through bobs or even heck to eat a good meal. There is really no need for bedding, take everything out and maybe put in a Kong with nothing else. That should keep the pup busy. He/She really doesnt need to like it, its not up to the dog. Stay strong and the dog will come around.
