Mine get bones and pig ears occasionally. Balls/frisbees for fun fetch only then they get put away. All sorts of squeaky toys around the house, have no hardmouth problems.

! It's a pup, no hair pulling. Keep it all positive. That pup's attention span is about half a microsecond long, just keep having fun. Everything is new to your pup, so really, everything you do is "training". Just try and keep experiences positive and stay consistent with your goals.

Re: Cooling article
Has anyone else had positive responses from splashing water on the dog's bellies and not on their heads or back? Scott Yes. Hot blood in the neck, belly, and groin areas. Good areas to cool. I have observed the same things as hi-tailyn, dogs will wade around to cool their undersides if left to thei...

Re: Symptoms of being too hard on a dog?
I really don't have the time or the inclination to get into this. But fear isn't a very good "training" tool, dogs that are afraid will let you down when they cower to appease your "manliness" instead of doing what they should. So you go right ahead and make any ignorant assumptions about my dogs le...

I think its a move in the right direction. You feed her, she knows you are the primary in the relationship. They should obey when given a command. That being said, it's not always necessary to command them. I think its great you posted, says something about you. I wouldn't worry about it. I'd rather...

Re: GSP - Why So Popular?
Post by leeave96 » Thu Jan 27, 2011 11:29 pm I have been scanning posts and looking at some dogs listed for sale and even in my neck of the woods, it seems that the German Shorthaired Pointer is a very popular dog. What sets these dogs apart from others that make it so desirable? I assume they are ...

Re: Demodectic Mange
I am not saying anything written here is wrong but it always bothers me when people who have never seen the dog try to diagnose the dog and even find fault with the vets diagnosis even though he is trained and has seen the dog. I know exactly what the response would be if the vet told someone any o...

He will be teething a while yet. When he comes after you say oops or no or whatever you use and give him something appropriate to chew on instead of your appendages :) Stay consistent and he'll come into it. Teething can be really uncomfortable. Most of my pups seem to like medium dense rubber with ...

Re: Demodectic Mange
My first GSP had demodectic mange as a pup. As you have probably read it is caused by naturally occuring mites overpopulating for some reason. Stress, poor diet, not yet fully developed immune system (in the case of a young pup) could all be factors. In my pups case I altered her diet, tried to keep...

Tracking training is more about instilling discipline. In NAVHDA tracking is meant for the recovery of wounded game. Note the use of the word wounded. It is not about finding birds.

I used this stuff recently. So far it's working well, but only been 6 days now. It does stink somewhat, the sheet included with it states that some people find it has a eucalyptus scent but I found it a bit more than that. The smell was more intense as the stuff dried but was detectable only from cl...

Maine, Rabies, and the Department of Agriculture
Any other Mainers get a letter from their vet about upcoming legislation to force vets to report rabies vaccinations to the Maine Department of Agriculture so they can compile lists by municipality in order for the towns to enforce dog registrations? Re: Dog food around the country
I normally feed Canidae which is $38 (for 40#) at the shop I frequent, a bit high but I like the mom and pops over superstores. I use the frequent buyer's program so every 13th bag is free (kinda...). Seems a pretty good product, I feed varying amounts to my shorthair, my old Rotti, and our little M...

Actually be careful about upsizing the wire guage. Dependent upon the size of containment area you could weaken or lose the signal altogether. Can I ask why the pup was diagnosed with lyme? Was it just a simple test or does the pup have symptoms? Diagnosing lyme is tricky. Permatack. Looks like leather but doesn't absorb moisture. The brass is great, has held up to the saltwater with no problems.

Grossman is probably better than Favre. Favre sucked as a rookie in ATL and played the next (4? 5?) years in a vicodin fog. I could probably play in the NFL if I took 10+ vicodin a day. Innie vulva
My pup suffers from frequent UTI's, and the consensus among multiple vets is that she has a partial innie vulva (she has a "folding" of skin that traps urine, hair, etc.). Some advise waiting to see if her first heat cycle will swell and "pop" the vulva, others regale me with the potential horrors o...
