I had him into surgery today & it wasn't the achillies tendon after all. He had a tear & dislocation of the superficial digital flexor tendon. He'll be in a cast for 4 to 6 weeks, then a soft bandage for 4 weeks, then gradual exercise for 4 weeks. It looks like there will be extra grouse & woodcock...

It was apparently a good hatch here in New England.

I have been out a few times since mid-July and my dogs have contacted/pointed Grouse
every time. Have heard some drumming as well.

Prey drive has more to do with the individual dog than it does with the breed. He is too young to tell too much yet but I agree with keeping quiet when running him on birds.
