Re: Yet more on the e-collar...

Thanks for the info... most people I've been speaking with recommend more continuous levels as I can control it like it momentary with a quick press of the button (even my trainer used the same scenario knine...Wild Mtn in PA). SO, I'm sold on that for my ecollar. Thanks for putting it to rest for m...

Yet more on the e-collar...

Here's the scenario. You have a TT Pro 100 and Pro 200 to use. The 100 has 18 levels of continuous stim. and 6 momentary. The 200 has 6C and 18M. Can anyone tell me is the continuous low level stimulation for the 100 and 200 (set at its lowest setting) the same stimulation and is the highest level (...

Re: Garmin eTex Vista HCx vs. Garmin GPSMAP 60 CSx

Wow gar-dog... those are some really good prices. Unfortunately I can't buy them as I'm in Canada and they do not ship to Canada. SO, I"m still looking. If you get one before I do (I'll post it if I do), let me know which one...

Re: Dog first-aid kit...

So taking this one step further... what would people carry on their person while hunting for a k9 first aid kit (in addition to the comprehensive one back in my vehicle)??

Dog first-aid kit...

Getting ready for my first hunting season with my Brittany, can't wait. Here's my question. What would put in a first aid kit for the dog? Also, should I carry a small one in my vest while in the field, and have a larger, more comprehensive one in my vehicle? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: chest protector...

Thanks B.Boone... do you find that the protector stays in place on your Britt when hauling through heavy cover, or does it want to slide somewhat? I like the fact that it has an open top so it is cooler in the early season....

Re: Garmin eTex Vista HCx vs. Garmin GPSMAP 60 CSx

Hey Mav... I have looked into the Astro... However it's not legal in Canada right now. Not sure what would happen if I did run it as who's gonna find me from Industry Canada (haven't seen too many of them stopping us). It runs on the MURS frequency as opposed to the regular GPS units. I'm not sure w...

Can anyone recommend a good chest protector vest for me? I'm concerned my Britt will have issues this fall as there is a TON of prickly ash where we hunt...

Log book tips...

I'm new to the pointing dog field, and am looking for some advice. I hear many people talk about going back in previous year's log books to see conditions, number of birds killed etc. My question is this. What information should go in this 'log book'?? I think it is a good idea, but am not sure how ...

Garmin eTex Vista HCx vs. Garmin GPSMAP 60 CSx

Has anyone used the above units? I'm looking at getting one of them, but not sure the price difference is worth the more expensive unit? How do they fair in heavy brush/timber??? Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Re: Tips to get close working dog out farther?

What I did (granted she was a pup when I started) was take her into a field with very low grass or with only dirt) and let her run free. She slowly gained her confidence and started to venture farther out. If she got too far, I would hide behind a tree or clump of brush, and she would eventually rea...

Re: Levels of stimulation on ecollars...

I wasn't sure as I was looking at the TT G2 Upland and it has 6 cont. levels. I'm interested in the beeper (hunt some pretty heavy cover), but I didn't know if I should upgrade to the Pro 100 for the extra cont. levels of stimulation, then add a beeper at a later time. I don't have a problem droppin...

Levels of stimulation on ecollars...

When purchasing (and training) with an ecollar, there are many options for levels of stimulation for both continuous and momentary. Question is, how many levels is enough? I see some with 6 cont., and upwards of who knows what. What will I need for my dog, or I should say, what is recommended?

Re: e-collars and distance...

Thanks for the replys so far, it is helping my process. However, what is everyone's opinion on the beeper addition? I know the G2 Upland has the beeper attached, and you can by the beeper for other collars... is it worth it?

Re: e-collars and distance...

ok... so you have me sold on the 1 mile range (I was pretty sure about that answer). Here's the kicker now. Which TT collar for me? I want it expandable in case I get another dog in a couple of years (which seams likely), but I'm new to the scene. I'll spend the money if necessary, but if I don't ha...

e-collars and distance...

I'm looking into getting my first e-collar, and have been checking the specs on TriTronics Upland G3 and Upland G2. Everything else aside, is the 1 mile range of the G2 that much superior than the 1/2 mile range of the G3? Reason I'm asking is that I hunt eastern Ontario where it can be quite heavy ...
