Re: Are there Sharptails in Kansas??????????

I vaugely remember reading an article in the late 90's about Sharptail re-establishment efforts in Kansas by the KDWP. I most likeley read about it in the KDWP magazine. I did a quick search to see if I could refresh my foggy memory here is what I found. not much. From 1992. some background on Sharp...

Re: To hold or not to hold

Thank you to all that responded Obviously, Dogs can be trained the same thing with several methods, prior to the internet none of us knew what the other guy was doing :D Yes ,but, I think it is very nice to have a forum like this where we can share different methods and the problems and/or successes...

Re: Was I wrong?

I've only used my collar for trashbreaking. I had to hit my dog with it this past weekend that jumped a deer and she took after it. I hit her pretty hard and she pumped the brakes pretty quick and stood looking where the deer went, then just started hunting again. Next day, she jumped a deer again,...

Re: Walking in Horse back trial, and a ?

Dumb question time. I'm not a trialer but am trying to better understand. Maybe I don't understand the suggestion fully, but it's telling me that, if my bracemate has a find, I have to basically stop on course and wait for them to finish before I can start showing my dog to the judges again? I just ...

Re: Cabela's Brittany boots?

Never had that pair but I did have a $160 pair of Irish Setters a few years ago. I had justified the price by thinking they would last me a good long while. Unfortunately most of the stitching ripped out before the end of a single season. I was very dissapointed and will never buy another pair of Ir...

Re: Cabela's Brittany boots?

I don't have any experience with them but I wouldn't worry about them being warm enough for upland hunting. Usually I worry more about boots being too warm. Sweaty feet = Cold feet. 200 I would think would be fine for late season but I prefer uninsulated most of the year. Ohh and personally I don't ...

Re: Anyone know where to find good deals on e-collars?

I have to recommend Collar Clinic. I just got a reconditioned G3 upland sport at a very good price. The guy I talked to (can't remember his name off hand) was very helpful and nice. Like he said, " put the reconditioned one next to a new one and you won't tell the difference". Got it and hes right!...

33 reads and no reply?? I guess I'll be the first to bite. Which would you prefer it do? I love hunting with flushing labs. They are great at what they do. Dog pointing at really thick nasty thorny over your head cover, send in the lab. Put the bird in the bag. I don't see why anybody would want a p...

To hold or not to hold

My question is this. At begining FF training why teach hold ? Not the hold itself I understand that, but why the extra command ? Why not just command fetch to hold the dumbell ?

Good News!!

Good News!! I'm recovering from a badly broken ankle and i've been worried that it would hamper my bird hunting this season.(I usually aim for 40 days and don't settle for anything less than 30) To make a long story short I talked with my physical therapist and he said that as long as I wear a brace...

Re: Hunting alone

I hunt alot by myself. Not that I don't enjoy the company of a few friends every now and then. It's just that with my work schedule I am able to hunt just about every morning and my days off are during the week. So with all my hunting buddies at work it's just me and the dog. I've come to really app...

I should add that no I don't have one. For some reason I just find these little known gentle pointers interesting and will consider them for my next dog. Although I do lean a bit more towards the hard headed Germans.

Braque du Bourbonnais- the other French Pointer

The Braque du Bourbonnais (brock-do-bor-bon-NAY) is one of the most ancient French pointers originally out of Bourbon, a region of central France. The breed was already known in 1598 as a dog skillful at hunting quail
