Cj, She is limping all the time now. I am starting a regime of NO strenuous exercise now. Walking outside only on a lead. Definitely getting a consult with the orthopedic vet. I shouldn't have used the term torn ligament. Our best guess is it is Bicipital tenosynovitis. Big word for damaged ligament.

thanks but the vet (who also competes in NSTRA with her dogs) says the problem is up in her sholder. I was thinking of cactus quill at first also.

Welcome. Take the training slow. I trained my first GSP at 35 using only gun dog by Wolters. 15 minutes every day. He was a fantastic dog.

Time for a So Cal NSTRA add. We are very kid friendly. I think we have 2 boys and 2 girls under 16 running their dads dogs. They do require gunners. The kids have a blast. We keep them involved. You have a few years but it is a way to get them involved in your sport.

Not sure what the retrieve issue was but Dean said she didn't get good scores for her retrieves. I didn't look a the score sheet to tell you anymore. I only bested her by 5 points at 812. Didn't run NSTRA in December because I had Covid for 15 days. Dog and I got out of shape. Guess I am ok now. Snowed all weekend. Miss and I took a second, third and a fourth place in 4 different trials with a field of 28 dogs. 2 dogs from North Dakota and quite a few from Northern California region....

I take shredded Cheddar cheese. Make a little pile on a paper plate. set the pill in the center. Microwave it for about 5 seconds. Just long enough to see the shreds to start melting. It will be hot. roll it around the pill. It will be oily from the liquid in the cheese. The oil amplifies the smell....

First aid,,, you would need to shave the hair on a dog but their is a product called " zip stitch" for closing wounds. Works great on humans also. Necessary for Chukar hunters. Look it up.

I personally like Perfection Kennels training style. Sounds like you have a great Brittany with lots of drive. I compete in NSTRA at a ranch our club leases. My 5 year old Brittany still will howl and whine the last 14 miles on the drive to the ranch. See will be shaking all over.
