Thanks for the offer to do some research. I can give you a few more bits of information which might help narrow the time frame to look in. Donner Horn's Zella was whelped 7/2/1970. I am looking for any information on a GSP named Donner Horn's Zella. The dog was whelped 7/2/1970 and the listed breeder is Robert Shain. I am trying to find historical information on the grandparents and great grandparents for this dog. If possible I would like information to contact the breeder.

This stuff goes back farther than what AKC has put in their online database. Pre 1978. I recognize the danger on non certified pedigrees but do the best I can to verify what I get.

So much has been said so far that I am no longer sure where to start with a train of thought. So many people have liver dogs that contain dogs in their lines that came from lines from outside the USA, it is not funny. Those foreign lines allow and in fact have black GSP dogs in them. I am not sure how the voting on the standard change went on the earlier votes. However, on the last vote, for those that voted, greater than 2/3rds were in favor. I believe that the number of members voting was the highest anyone could remember. But because the number of votes was near but not 2/3rd...

I for one would kill to own the first DC Black GSP in America. What confuses me is when people like Chris Benskin think that the only reason the black GSP is such a good hunting dog is because the black GSP is not allowed in the show ring only in the USA. Funny that no one has asked what the dam and sire are like. Was it a line breeding or an outcross breeding? Are both, dogs that you like and wish you had? If so, chances are in your favor you will end up with a dog something like them.
