The R&R Smith method w/e collar on flank, launchers if you have them, any way of releasing birds will work. Nick them very lightly ( this means whoa)when they get to close and you know they have winded the bird. This works fantastic on wild Ruffed Grouse!You can always hear a grouse, flush.

I killed an old, 175# Tom, Mt Lion in "99 and brought all the meat back, cooked it up and ate it. Tougher than Arnold Swarzeneggar. Then I remembered the first time I ate it we only had the tenderloin!

No, grouse prefer to roost in the snow where they are warmer. They do roost in trees if snow conditions are not favorable to a snow roost, but this is very hard on them in this extremely cold weather.
