C'mon... I don't know why but I actually read that link on "myths." Unsubstantiated. Nature is an increasingly cruel and brutal place the further down the food chain we travel. Wolves do not choose to wait weeks to eat, they are opportunists as well as hunters and would eat daily if they could. When...

I have only been at this a bit under 5 years but I have seen such a limited amount of this "gamesmanship" it is hard for me to fathom the levels or consistency of this that can sour folks. Doug, That information is spun. Ray nailed it... ...professionals do not need to do anything to do anything nefarious to beat most of us amateur handlers. The best proof of this may be to judge an AKC Open Gun Dog one day and then judge the same dogs the next day in an AGD running under their owners...sometimes the performances do...

I came home to find a window broken out and asked my son who was playing baseball if he did it. He said no, that a big windstorm just came up and it carried a rock right through it. The good news is that there are clear guidelines and consequences for dog and people problems at a field trial. Conversely, hunting club parking lots, fields, dog parks, Petco, front yards, etc...where the preponderance of horror stories occur are generally unmitigated and inhabited by bias and blin...

It is the judge's job to set the pace, and the handler's job to show the judge the dog. A handler 1/2 a mile (or considerably less) ahead of the judge's aren't showing the judges much and will probably get reeled in from said judge. The handler and the judge should ride at a comfortable pace and the...

can you imagine the chaos and extended time a trial would take if handlers had to go look for dogs on point? As described earlier, it is simply the scouts job to cover ground that it would not be practical to have handlers judges and galleries going in multiple directions.

Conformation is how a breed is defined, and Field is what their job is. Both are equally important along with temperament. All 3 things are what, in the end, defines a breed. No one of the 3 should ever be seriously lacking or they should not ever be considered for breeding. I am going to agree wit...

I am not sure this is a popcorn event? Does American Field list conformation anywhere? The preponderance of pointer folk I know could not give a rat's fat elbow what the AKC has to say. What little fussing there is at those trials is reserved for arguing over field related performance and rules.

Polmaise I believe he is saying he couldn't imagine catching the dog if that was his option. In days of old they had to saddle up and ride hard to catch a dog like Elks and they had a tendency to make the correction worth their effort. Softer dogs had little chance their odds are much better today

No one has mentioned the collar to "run down a dog" The collar is used to make corrections at a distance immediately on an untethered animal.
