Re: puppy stakes, derbys, all age....
I happen to live really close to Ionia, MI where they hold the gun dog nationals and I've started taking my dog out there to just go for walks. I was lucky and bumped into a britt owner that has been camping there between trials, Allen Newton if you've heard the name. He gave me some good advice and...

Ok I have no idea what all the different types of events you can enter yoru dog in. Could someone kinda of tell me what you would enter your dog in starting as a puppy and working your way up as he gets older? The only thing I really know is that you can start doing puppy stakes at 6 months, open me...

People from Michigan
Just wanted to see how many people are from Michigan on this board. I live in Portland. I'm also looking for a place as close as possible where I can pick up some quail or even pigeons.

Grady's First Point!!!
Grady is about 10 1/2 weeks old and this was his first point. The second day that I brought him home I had tried to get him to point a wing on a string but all he would do was chase it. So I put it up and tried the next day, same thing. I decided to wait a couple days and try it again and still the ...

Puppy help
Ok, my britt is 9 weeks old today and I was wondering if I should be worried about some things. I have taken him for some walks in some very short grass fields and all he does is follow right behind me on my heels, when I stop he just lays down. Sometimes I'll walk him down this path a couple hundre...

Re: Structure of a brittany ......
I thought the pic of the Gray male looking left was the best of any of the pups but his other two just didn't show much so I kind of went with the last one overall. But if the Gray one is as nice as the one pic you did well. yeah they didn't do a very good job taking the pictures. All the pups look...

Re: Structure of a brittany ......
Congratulations! What made you pick the grey one over the others? Just curious! I have no idea! I didn't think that it'd be that hard to pick but it was! I had my choice of the three boys and before actually seeing them I was somewhat set on getting the blue one but when I saw them it was between t...

Keeping quail
Whats the best way to keep just maybe 2-4 quail. I think that with my available space, thats all I can keep. Also, how do I go about getting them back after I've used them for a training session?

I haven't got to see any of them yet so I have no idea what kind of personalities any of them have. I am just going to ask the breeder when I go what they think.

Well I get to pick up my puppy in about a week and a half. I have not yet seen them but have pictures of them taken when they were just over 6 weeks old. If I wanted to pick out the best dog that looks physically ready for show and field, what would I be looking for? I think that I will be getting a...

Where to take a hunting trip?
Ok so I am getting my first dog in a couple weeks, a brittany. I want to start looking into taking a hunting trip sometime next year. I've never did much bird hunting because of two reasons, there aren't a lot of birds in my area (Michigan) and I didn't have a dog. I'm excited to have the oppourtuni...

Go to half.com and search for the training books you want. They are used but if that doesn't matter to you they are pretty cheap.

Bird dogs that rabbit hunt...
Would training your bird dog to rabbit hunt in the winter kind of ruin him as a bird dog? Especially for hunt tests and field trials, you wouldn't want them pointing at rabbits and not birds.

What is a rough timetable of when you would expect that you could first try your dog in a junior hunt test? How old are the dogs that are normally competing in the MH?

Will a puppy run away?
I was reading back through some older posts and came across this one http://www.gundogforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=12430 Won't a puppy just sometimes run off when its in the field? I really have no idea and would rather have mine be in the field without a cc but have a fear of it running off.

Re: New to training...buying a brittany.
Thanks for the replies. On the 14th, the breeder said that her "club" would be hosting a "fun day" which is basically a picnic where everyone gets together with their dogs and stuff. I think that it is the West Michigan Brittany Club. I plan on going to that and it should give me a good chance to le...

New to training...buying a brittany.
I am buying a brittany from a liter that is to be born sometime here in mid june and will be taking it home in early-mid august. I have never owned a bird dog so I am totally new to the training aspect. I am trying to look for some sort of guide as to when stuff should start being taught, a rough gu...
