Re: Newbie from AZ
Welcome to the board, this is a great place. Perhaps a visit to one of your local Bird Dog clubs, like the Arizona Pointing Dog Club (http://www.azpdc.org) could provide some of the insight and techniques that you requested as well. I know it was probably the best move I made and has developed many ...

Re: Garmin Alpha
I have seen a similar post on another forum and experienced the same observation. A software update was the suspected cause of change. The Linear Stim function was reduced and seems to be what you are describing. i.e. requiring you to turn it up quite a few levels to get the same level of stimulatio...

Re: Looking for Brittany Breeder suggestions
@ Chuckar12, His breeding is from a family in Flagstaff AZ that bred for hunting, not trials. Any relevant lineage is so far back I couldn't really claim them. Either way, he is my buddy, has won quite a few local club trials and placed in a Tournament of Champions this year. We managed to take the ...

Looking for Brittany Breeder suggestions
I am beginning research to find a breeder for an American Brittany pup (female). I have read some of the other thread suggestions, yet I am aware suggestions change and come in the form of a PM. I am looking for: 1. Family friendly pup 2. Foot hunter primarily, field trials second (not interested in...

Re: Home Built Electronic Bird Launchers
Those controllers for car alarms (the link that was provided to you above) and work well. As an alternative, I built the actual mechanical launchers from scraps laying around then I ended up thieving my kids old RC cars and modified the electronics using the transmitter/receiver from them. Hooked a ...

Plenty heat here in AZ...we get out early at sunrise, rotating dogs in the field from a chain gang in the shade, on short two three bird sessions...have water with us always and get a few of those concrete mixing pans from your local hardware store to fill with water. The dogs will get right in afte...

My Brittany is about as soft as they get, he can handle e stimulation but get weary. The vibrate mode worked great as a correction and Whoa and doesn't cause him to get distracted or weary.

Re: adding a new bird
I have been preserving several birds for about 6 months due to them being my eggs producers. I cycle other birds in every few weeks that I catch and buy. Every time, the "locals or resident" birds have beat up the newcomers. Pecked the feathers off the back of their heads and poking at their eyes. S...

I worked as a vet tech for about ten years. Every lost dog/cat that came in was scanned, every dog and cat that was treated by us for the local shelter was scanned. Since then I found a Pointer running wild in the desert, I took it to the closest vet on the way home and they gladly scanned it for fr...

I had a CZ O/U (Canvasback) that I really wanted to like, but I couldn't hit a dang thing with it, just didn't fit, so I sold it. Point being, value, quality, etc doesn't mean a thing if you and the gun don't meld. Had a CZ Upland Ultralight, loved the weight and fit..but for some reason I couldn't...

The launcher method has not seemed to get my pup to stop on scent either.... As others have suggested, back to the cord without out launcher and teach it to point reliably. Good selection on the DVD. Re: Any Birddog DIY-ers Out There?
Those door actuators are what I ended up using on both my launchers. On my larger launcher I made a pivot arm that releases the system, on the smaller one I simply pull a cord over the throw arms and use the actuator to pull the trigger on a bow release I had laying around. The second ended up being...

I made a few launchers, then borrowed the kids RC stuff to make them wireless. Thanks for all the advise. Some good reading there. @ sharon, you are certainly correct.
