Forrest go with a Tritronics pro series ecollar, model 100, 200 or 500. You want be sorry. Mo + 1 to that I have a Pro 500 and Love it before that had a Field 90 good for hunting but doesn't have the Versatility in Stim that you need when training, I Think Knine uses the Pro 100 also a good collar,...

I've heard of and seen Videos of folks using Airedales as Pheasant dogs looked like they did a good Job, Not my cup of tea but as long as your happy with the dog that's all that matters.

I hear you on that. Best to cut out as many variables as you can. Also having two separate "flocks" means if something happens to one I am not bird-less. All good help. In my Experience with Quail they look for any reason to die :roll:, and I've had Chuckar kill other birds like Pigeons or Quail
I've just always found it easier to keep them separate in case some disease got in it didn't kill all my birds same thing with Predators.

First, don't put quail and Pigeons in the same Pen ! the'll spread disease to each other or kill each other ! Build a Coop for the Pigeons, the quail will be OK in the pen you Built depending on the # of Quail you intend to have in there other wise build it bigger or build them a Johny house.

I bought a Stevens 512 20ga because it is a break action, light and works great for training. I can lay it down without having to worry about scratching it and the price wasn't bad either. Also has barrel selector for under 600.00 Did you get the Regular model or the Stainless steel receiver model ...

I'd go with a DD or a PP if I was only going to have 1 dog to do the kind of hunting you stated but I have 5 britts and I do hunt both upland and waterfowl with them But on cold mornings I let my buddys lab to the hard stuff and let mine do the easy work

They are nice for a dog with a shorter coat but dogs like britts or setters are better of with a Skid plate since it doesn't go all the way around the body. JMO

I think I may have run a time or two when training a dog but I don't run when hunting as there is no need to. If the dog points I tend to slow down maybe to a complete stop as I wait for other hunters to get into position, or taking a picture, or sometimes just to make the dog hold that point longe...
