Yup, let them be a pup! There is always time down the road for formal training, provide a few simple ground rules that the dog must learn early and then have fun with them, give em lots of attention, experiences, and love.

I can't run. But I do hurry up a little bit, kind of a power walk. It isn't the dog, sometimes those birds just won't wait forever. _________________ John Lunseth Those impatient birds provide a little additional training. Seeing birds leave like that years ago would have driven me crazy, with the ...

I never run after my dog on point. Sure when they are young they will mess some up, but it's a learning experience for them. They learn they better stand that bird until I get there if they want a retrieve.

Ezzy is right on, choke chains are for supervised training only, lots of bad things can happen otherwise.

I have used the coated nylon ones from LCS for years and have loved them, cheap, durable, smell resistant, easy to clean, etc. Why do some of you guys advise against the coated nylon ones?

Whatever you do don't go saying "Whoa" to a young dog around wild birds that doesn't absolutely know the meaning of the command.

Lot's of 'Whoa" and having a youngster then chase will make your future work at steadying the dog much more difficult.

ProPlan Performance can be a bit steep. I buy mine at Petco, where you buy 10 bags you get one free. They also have a "200 Pound" program which gets you 10% off, you can also use coupons and other offers in conjunction. The last time I bought 200 lbs there I think I paid just over $23 for a 37.5lb b...

Try closer to $2000 to get a Beanie baby out, and that was a 2 yr old dog.

I always crate my dogs in the house if I'm not around, brings me more piece of mind.

You don't see black GSP at Field Trials but I have seen my fair share at AKC Hunt Tests over the years. Very striking looking dogs, some of them have shown me a lot in the field too with thier style and hunt. I have always thought the same, if black is good for the rest of the world what makes us so...

Yes, any membership dues coming at Game Fair or after are good for the following year also. You are paid up for 2006, that's why I didn't send you a dues renewal card in November.
