Re: Pup's pointing!
That's awesome, heck of a foundation you're laying with that pup. Keep it up! Hoping I get to see her, and meet you at the next training day.

Re: idiots
In the game of life, reputation does matter. I try to never say anything online i wouldn't say to someones face AND I learn alot about people from the WAY they answer posts and less from their actual opinion. If nothing else, it helps me filter those who I'd rather not deal with in this great wide ...

Re: help don't want to fail the dog!!!!
I think so. I have 2 GSPs and DD and live in an Apt. I keep them on a routine with long walks and trips to the dog park (Disclaimer: I hate the dog park, most people there instill no manners or obedience in their dogs but its fenced in free space so I use it). I also make time to bring them out to l...

Re: Getting Pup to Potty (Outside!)
Definitely keep her moving and be patient, I would try and keep her in the same area, as mentioned the smells should trigger that as her spot to go. Also some pups get wise to the act that when they go potty that their outside time ends so they hold it longer when outside to stay outside.

Re: Table Vs. Barrel Vs. Blocks
Vman - You've peaked my interest. I currently am woahing my pup at the food bowl, and a variety of places around the house when I want her to stand still. I have her woah outside some, I do my best to time it to when she's paying attention and slowing down, not lost in smells or chasing squirrels. I...

Re: Did some bird introduction
Live about 25 miles west of St Louis. Are you doing anything with NAVDHA? The MO Uplands chapter is running a training day the 9 and/or 10 of June. I'm new to all this myself, I've been saying my pup does wonders for my patience. Slowly, but surely that point will come, as well as her relationship w...

Re: Did some bird introduction
I have 3 females, a DD (16 week pup) and 2 GSPs(6&9)... Same thing as you said with the nipping and instigating, only thing different is that I feed all three from their own bowls. The DD nips at their haunches on leashed walks and hasn't quite figured out an acceptable level of play for the GSPs, w...

Re: fetching troubles
All great advice here. I found that my pup was veering to the side when I was taking the dummy too quickly. It made her want to play a bit of keep away, not full blown obviously, but it was her way of holding her prize a little longer. To add a question of my own, my pup sometimes drops the dummy sh...

Name, Come, Sit (means sit until I tell you other wise), Down, No, Off... That's where I'm at with my 15 w/o pup... Joan Bailey's book on has helped me a lot with teaching her

Looks good to me.
Purina or Eukanuba did a study a while back that showed if your dog had the 2 ribs showing or was even a hair skinnier that on average it lived 2 years longer.

First Pup, I'm Hooked
I've been lurking on here for a few months and have posted a few times, but never of my pup. Figure I might as well jump in sometime. She's a 14w/o DD pup. Here's her first time out swimming http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii62/Redneck111402/DSCN0238.jpg And retrieving a Chukar http://i261.photob...

To clarify for CC, the pup in question is from a litter he currently has and is different from the pup he got a few weeks back.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I'm looking for some input. I have a 12 week old pup, has had Frontline on for 3 weeks. In the last 3 days I have pulled 10+ ticks off her. Now I will say that the ticks I pulled off, minus one lone star tick that held on for dear life, have looked like they've s...

Re: Should I train my pointing dog to sit
I had the same concern with my britt pup when I brought him home in January and I decided that SIT and STAY would be some of the first commands he learned. My rationale was that he needed to be a good house dog first, in a home with young kids and frequent visitors they are a must, and a good bird ...

Re: Getting a new puppy!
It ain't easy... I spent my time reading the Draht puppy manual, the NAVDHA green book, and How to help gun dogs train themselves. I also plenty of time cruising the forums and browsing gun dog supply.
