hunting by myself and not working very well
Hello people smarter than me, I have hunted primarily by myself (except for the dog too) this year with no success. For those of you that do the same thing but get results, what are some strategies that help you get birds. There's not a lot of birds here in missouri but I'd like to at least get a ta...

You can't blame the company for the mistake.....now the consumption of the companys product might have had something to do with it though

Re: Congrats Hunterw/anewhobby
Thanks Chris,
I give full credit to genetics on this 2nd place finish because I know the dog's trainer and he's not that smart. It was definitely a new experience but I think Chris might have started a new hobby for me. (my wife is SUPER excited...heavy on the sarcasm).
Thanks

Re: Live birds near KC?
Hey, I'm up in St. Joe and its easier to find a bird supplier on the Kansas side...MO has lots of rules (pain in the ...). Technically you need a permit to have any of them in MO but Kansas is more relaxed. I don't have a permit but as long as I don't get caught I don't think anyone will care. Let m...

Man. vs. Remote launchers
based on the fact that remote launchers are ungodly expensive, are they really that much better than manuel ones. I'm on a buget and poor so any money saved would be great w/o losing the training opportunity. thanks for the 2 cents.

Re: Have you ever...
Thoughts behind idea was.....
Find morrel and point (they are for me like the birds)
the dogs nose is better than my eyes
She covers more ground than me.....stupid gut
Not same season as birds
Now someone smarter than me tell me how to get this accomplished.

Ezzy That's exactly what I want MDC to do...supplament shooters to help lessen the effect on wild (smarter) birds. the habitat is there for the most part in some areas with some more improvement only helping more. My thoughts are its hard for a wild population to grow if every year they are hunted a...

Sad Day...Stupid Missouri
Today is one of the worst days in missouri. Basically every hunting season shuts down and my life gets boring for a while. Here's a couple of my thoughts for anyone who cares. 1. Recently I emailed Mo Department of Conservation and asked if they would consider releasing quail and phez to help supple...

Re: Anyone have road condition info 4 NW Missouri?
Most of the areas are going to be pretty hard to get to. Roads are terrible at best....I'm wanting to get out to but I'm almost scared to move a covey in fear the birds will die from the cold. Good luck if you can go.

THought to help the sport grow
Hello all, Today I started mulling over an idea I have to help the decreasing population of upland hunters increase by a few new members. (just shooting this out there as an idea and am looking for some feedback) I am a midwesterner in my late twenties and got a late start to my hunting hobby. I hav...

Dogs first birds
Went out today, since work was cancelled (love being a teacher) and expected to just freeze my butt off walking around in the 0 degree windchill day. First fence row she found a small covey of quail, pointed, I flushed, and (miracle of god) I shot the first wild bird over my GSP. Talk about a proud ...

Jumbo Quail
Question of the day to the guys way smarter about this stuff than me. What are the pros and cons to using Jumbo Quail in your training? I have found a breeder in MO and they're cheap. So I was wanting to make sure I'm not going to screw up my pup if I use them on her. Thanks for the help

Hi,
I'm in St. Joe, MO also and the only person I know of that's close is topher40 (Chris) and you would need to call/ pm him to see if he has any. I've been wanting to go and catch some with a net so if you'd be interested in that pm me.

Re: Good dog to start with?
Hello, I'm up in St. Joe and last summer bought a GSP from a guy in Independance, MO. She has 9 FC in her pedigree so she isn't breed to bad but the important part is she makes me look like I know what I'm doing dog training wise. She's a great housepet and loves to look for birds. PM me and I can g...

Re: Call Back Coop
OK some to keep off topic. How did you do the $70 surigator? Pics and plans would be great. Our quail population in NW Mo is pretty sad and the farmer I hunt on would be more than willing to allow me to put one one his land. So plans/ pics would be really cool. thanks

Input on two e-collars
Question of the day. I am getting ready to buy an e-collar for my 6mon GSP. I'm a poor teacher so my choices are between the 2008 model of the LCS collar for $150 or the sportdog 400 for $160. If any of you have used/ owned these before, your input would be greatly appreciated. I know they are proba...

To anyone in NW missouri/ NE Kansas ("close" to the St. Joseph,MO area), I'm a teacher (so I'm fairly poor) and have a 6mon old GSP that is in need of some more bird work. I was wondering if anyone knew of any preserves/ hunt clubs within/ a couple hours that are cheap so I can get her on some birds...

puppy doesn't point wing on a string
Hello, I have recently aquired a GSP puppy, much to the dismay of my wife, and so far she's doing great. She does good at coming when called, getting pretty good at healing, and retrieves pretty well also. The only thing that she hasn't impressed me with yet is pointing a wing on a string. Should I ...
