I'm not sure exactly where Hillsdale county is but there are 3 NAVHDA chapters in Mich. I know the southeast chapter meets almost every weekend during the summer usually both days.

I made one last summer but I didn't have the remote on it. I had to plant it around corners, over hills, etc like Sharon said. I then borrowed a remote one from a buddy. The dog got used to it within two weeks like he could almost anticipate when I was going to pop it. He was backing at like 100 yds...

1. Let their feathers dry
2. Create a little mound in front of the food tray. They will find the water if it isn't too far from the food. You may have a few that will not find it and die but that's all part of raising birds
3. If you bought them as crumbles, they should be fine.

You should have corrected the behavior on the FIRST bird he did that two and he would have gotten the idea.

You can also search on NAVHDA.org under the Registry tab for a NAVHDA pedigree. This will allow you to see if there are any dogs that have records in that organization as well.

I think it's mainly for the handler to keep you consistent in what you want the dog to do. I use the name for a mark and back for a blind. I also used fetch through FF but transitioned to back when I got to that stage of the game.

How are the Shooting Starr or Sharp Shooter lines? Good, I wouldn't get sold on someone claiming Shooting Starr or Sharp Shooter lines. What I've done in the past is put neosporin on is, but a piece of gauze on the wound then wrap it in vet wrap. This is the stuff that sticks to itself. I usually stand with the dog for a few minutes and if it tries to eat it off, I tell them NO.

One of my friends just got the garmin alpha and he loves that thing. My dog doesn't get out far enough to justify buying one and also the cover we hunt isn't thick enough. Knowing what TriTronics has put out in the past and now it's being incorporated into garmin, I think that is your best bet!

In my experience, an ecollar will not do you any good. I would pinch on both sides of his mouth right in front of where the jaw is jointed and basically peel his mouth apart. This is one of the first parts of FF. You tell the dog 'Fetch' then you tell them to 'Drop' or 'Out'. Also with FF, you need ...

My thoughts would be to hunt like normal and every time the dog breaks on the shot, say NO!, low stim and bring them back to the spot then you go retrieve it. I know it sounds crappy but you need to teach them they may not get every retrieve and it will encourage your steadiness. It worked well for ...

My wife is in the horse industry and I think that if we ever built a barn it would be cement then stall mats then bedding. From what I've seen in kennels, poured cement is the way to go. This way urine runs off and fecal matter won't get stuck anywhere.

My understanding is there are different levels sort of like senior hunter and master hunter for the water. I guess I should have been more clear in my question. I think it's like RD, RDX, etc. One is just retrieving and the other is retrieving advanced, I have to look back to be 100%sure.

Make sure that if you live near any sort of woods, you make the cage fox proof or raccoon proof. I just lost 5 breeder chukars and some pigeons to a raccoon getting into my pen. He's been back since then but hasn't had luck since i put wire in the ground and dog chain link all around the pens.

I asked a similar before. The answer that I received was that I had an obedience issue with "Here/Come". The dog doesn't think he ALWAYS has to bring you whatever he has. I agree with the last guy! You need to have the birds, and wild bird really in a large enough pen to stretch their wings and get exercise or they will run around instead of fly. I would keep him on a CC at that age. This way you still have control of the dog when he doesn't return you can tell him "Come" and pull the cord. Yes, raise your own pheasants. Currently, full grown pheasants in PA sell for about $13-15 a piece. I feel that's expensive but I don't have room really to be raising 50 pheasants. I had a sport series but lately, with gloves on, I've been wondering why my dog won't make any change when I'm wanting to hit the buttons. I don't think I was reaching the buttons with gloves on.
