...on your pups. I am very interested in how they progress, i.e. foot handling range, AA field trial range, independence, etc., etc. Anyone who owns a competitive Britt probably has a Beans Blaze nick in the PED. I line breed Rocky dogs so I am interested in how that nick will play out. I know you p...

I have no word's of wisdom. I'd have to credit other's for what ever it is I think I know. But one of my favorite's I read in Amer field and is a quote of Dr. Alvin Nitchman. He was watching a handler (?) screaming whoa at his dog that was busy running off. He turned to the guy next to him and said...

I don't know Dave but respect what he has done in the Brittany community. I have been to several of Rick's seminars and recommend him highly. I have seen both newbies and old experienced bird dog handlers attend his foundation seminar and one older experienced dog guy said he would not sell one of h...

American Field does not require it for their Champions. I think the retrieve in hunt tests make sense and it showcases the abilities of the trainer more than the dog. I have seen call backs in other pointing breed trials and honestly some of them are a joke the way they are carried out. I think fiel...

Romeo, There are probably 6 different ways to teach whoa (all good) and it seems like you may have a couple of methods going on at the same time. You seem to be using a variation of the "Smith" whoa post method which is very good. I am not a big fan of new trainers using bits and pieces from several...

FWIW, It is taught by Rick Smith and from what I have heard, Delmar is now using it. Their philosophy is that the stimulation on the neck (intermittent) is for teaching "come to you and go with you" and the flank (continuous stimulation) is for "stand still" and when you received a conditioned respo...

We usually use "velcro dog" for the ones that won't leave the handler. I have heard sticky used to describe a dog that points alot, foot scent, birds in the bush, etc. Wants to point anything out of an excess of caution. I have heard that defination before but it seems to be used the same as velcro...

I use the standard 1" leather with D ring for check cord work and also whoa post work. I need to mention that I use the flank stimulation on the whoa post so no pinch is needed. If needed depending on the dog I will use the Wonder Lead aka Command lead in replacement of the pinch with yard work depe...

All my dogs stay outside in barrels with prairie hay in them. I face them so they wind doesn't come in the door. It was down to 0 degrees the other night. I am sure Knine and others will chime in here (I hope) but I think you start correcting that problem the minute you bring your pup home. Here is what I do: pick the pup up and make sure you have a firm grasp. When the pup bites I smack it in the muzzle (not too hard) and hold the mouth shut for 5 or...

Either a German Shorthair Pointer or an American Brittany would be good choices. I suggest you go to AKC.org and look under breeds or sporting breeds and you should be guided to both of them. Do a search of the Breed Clubs and you should be able to get some good information. Good Luck and Happy Hunt...

I don't know much about the requirements of a navada title as I am mainly AKC / AM field. I have heard that navhda is quite involved. Through my own experience, I found that when I overtrained my dog and put too much control on him, I got the yo-yo problem (that may not be the problem in your case)....
