MY LM finds a new gear when it is cold out, but pretty much all the breeds mentioned should work in a cold dry environment.

Working him when it is warmer, like above 10c I need to make sure to get him cooled off.

It seemed the boys were not monitoring and the dog ate 1.5 large toblarone bars, I am not sure when but in the last few hours.

At that age if mine was off leash he would have been under foot and on leash he was at the end of it. Don’t get suckered (like I did)thinking their recall is solid because between 6 an 9 months they will forget their name, then the real work starts. That is very valid one thing, I have noticed as well is the rise of both rudeness and hyper sensitivity sort of a civility death spiral. Everything is a grand personal a front that required a full broadside response. I don't know how some folks get through life when they are constantly offended.

Typically pigeons are classified as pets, it does not have to be big I have a converted playhouse 4'x10', but the original 4'x6' is plenty 15-20 birds. you will probably still need the quail as well.

I have a couple of places the should work for that especially if there is snow on the ground.

I am thinking the goal for week nights is extending the length of piles and hand signals, weekends pull the pigeons out when ever possible.

You should be able to finish with a manual launcher which is not so expensive. But if your the tinkering sort converting that manual launcher to be remote is not too hard about 50$.

Mine never consider his kibble a treat even when hungry, but I did find a dog food that was sold in a form of salami but it's probably closer to haggis, I would cut that into cubs and use it for his treats on the treadmill or other times when I wanted to use treats. If I did not get my wire crate free, I would not use one, it's our in the truck and travel crate, there just too noisy.

I matched the crate to the dog, and used, there is no point buying new till the final crate, and the puppy crate is now my bird carrier :)

Th only time I had trouble was when the chick fell out of the nest, I had that happen a time or two, but I made better nests. I have had chicks survive -20c to -30c. I bulk feed through the winter to make sure they have enough food to stay warm.

1 I would rather have settings I may never need, normal working range for my dog for yard work and most field work is shades of 1 (TT collar) if he gets too excited for field training low/medium 2. But it was nice to have 4 medium when I caught him chasing deer, the next time it only two 2 medium.

One thing that I was taught was to do tracking with a tail wind if possible, that way they have to use the trail scent, not any stray air sent. I also started mine on fresh dead vs live.

All predators have a "pause before pounce" mechanize , think about it the next time you want to smack a fly. I would venture to say that after 3- 4 seconds it's more of an obedience/training thing than instinct. The pause was always there, un-natural selection (selective breeding) made it stronger.
