I have been trying to think of a bird dog breed that would be bad with a family, even with proper raising.

Mine spends at least 8 hours a day in the kennel, but normal days when the boys come home from school they walk him or put him on the tread then I take him out after supper, so if possible engage the wife and kids to help out. Weekends, do your best to drain the dog on the weekends. Training / menta...

MY LM finds a new gear when it is cold out, but pretty much all the breeds mentioned should work in a cold dry environment.
Working him when it is warmer, like above 10c I need to make sure to get him cooled off.

For the layman this is a totally muddied issue, there are so many studies, I won't call them contradictory(but darn close), though they will say "because of this it is better to wait or early is required because of this". There are upsides and down sides of both positions, so it comes down to your g...

Re: New puppy and kids
It's always best to act with some caution, a 4 month old should not be alone with kids regardless, just to cover exuberant play. I bet this is the start of a long friendship. One question I have is that with mine he got a little snappy 6-9 month sexual maturity stage (nothing serious but most certai...

Re: .204 vs .223 vs .22-250?
They don't lie but they don't tell the whole truth, I don't have a calculator handy but run a iirc 39 sierra @ 3800 and it will mimic a typical 22-250 with a 55 grain, trajectory and drift. 32s look sexy since they are over 4000 fps, but the 39 are a better load. And they in general shoot better in ...

Re: Programs
Even if you are following one program, having knowledge of other programs can be useful if you hang up on a step. All the programs are basically skinning the same cat, but doing it is slightly different ways, so it can be helpful to approach the same step from a different direction. Another thing is...

Nice ! just for curiosity when compared to your other dog would this potentially mean
a more deliberate search
or
stronger retrieve instinct
I consider it a good thing when a pup gets distracted by it's nose!

That is very valid one thing, I have noticed as well is the rise of both rudeness and hyper sensitivity sort of a civility death spiral. Everything is a grand personal a front that required a full broadside response. I don't know how some folks get through life when they are constantly offended.

Re: Launchers
Baby socks now that's a new one. Wire basket on a string could work too. The Hickox method is very launcher dependent, the perfect finish method could be done with kick baskets but it needs lots of pigeons that home and ideally a partner. For those who know? I matched the crate to the dog, and used, there is no point buying new till the final crate, and the puppy crate is now my bird carrier

I think the racers typically run 18% so I don’t think 16 % is too hot, I run a mix of layer pellets, wheat and field peas, but that was more because the gain is cheaper per bag and if a whole grain spilled on the floor it still could be eaten. All predators have a "pause before pounce" mechanize , think about it the next time you want to smack a fly. I would venture to say that after 3- 4 seconds it's more of an obedience/training thing than instinct. The pause was always there, un-natural selection (selective breeding) made it stronger.
