Re: Help with CC and pigeons......
Play the wind Man. Take the dog in across the wind (ie wind S to N, bring dog in E to W) and when he smells it, you should be able to tell. In that scenario it should be an abrupt left turn.GSPBearMan wrote:How can I know he is in the scent cone?

Good luck continuing to develop Spur!
...does that mean before 10:00am cuz it was 94 in SW KS this morning. Highs have been 108 and 106 the last two days. Way too hot for much of anything.nitrex wrote:Here are a few pics I took this morning before it got too hot when he pointed a pigeon.

I second Dennmor...it might give me some credibility with my wife that other people actually do that (keep pigeons in town)Dennmor wrote:I'm very curious to see your setup for keeping your birds.(got pictures?)

I grew up around AQH and cattle, but don't know the first thing about gaited horses, horseback trials, etc. and it would be nice to have something here. IMO it could tie in nicely.

Re: Creating New Possibly Contraversal GSP Webpage Need INPUT
Briarpatch- I think your website looks nice and has a lot informative links, but I don't know if someone looking for GSP/DK info would find your site too easily. I googled gsps, german shorthairs, and german shorthair information and your site didn't get a hit in the 1st three pages (I quit looking ...

Re: Training without a launcher?
laying off a day wont hurt a thing. You are exactly right...because of work, rain, and travel, I had to take 10 days off of training, but my dog progressed when I got back too him. He was actually better than when I last trained. Thanks RayG The key is to always quit a winner..never take achance on...

Re: Training without a launcher?
Good posts...RayG you brought up a question for me.. put the dog away for at least an hour or so, better still put him up for the day. In my situation, I do have two launchers. My dog sees two birds...carry him away as you described, then we break and he sees two more. How many bird contacts is too ...

You should also ask that owners spay/neuter these dogs so this sort of thing doesn't happen again.TrueBlu Shorthairs wrote:These dogs are mutts and should be sold as "hunting dogs" with total honesty in all dealings. Some won't begin to care and will gladly take a pup from this breeding.

Re: If you could go back
If I could go back, I would have gone to a seminar sooner. I read several books and watched videos, but it wasn't until I went to a George Hickox seminar and got hands on experience that I started making real progress. I made many of the mistakes already mentioned, but I can't say enough about "pro"...

Why did you go pro?
Generally speaking, I think it can be agreed that we all love dogs/hunting/trialing/nature or we wouldn't be on this site. How did you make the decision that you were going to make a living training/trialing dogs? I would assume that skill/talent plays a role in this, like any other profession. When...

Re: breeding question
I believe romeo is correct. If I could have only one to be great, I would rather it be the female. The females feeds and nurtures the pups. Some would argue that it's not just a 50=50 deal when it comes to genes, but more like 60-40 in favor of the female. That ought to get an argument going! You m...
