Re: GSP MH

Dumb question alert.....does "MH" simply mean master hunter, as in AKC tests, or is "MH" the initials of a specific bloodline/dog?

Re: Recommendation for dog box

The oy recommendation I can make is to look locally. When I was shopping, the freight charges were pretty high. Ended not getting one because I couldn't find any local. Dog doesn't mind....he gets to ride inside lol!

Do you have ticks this time of year? I was finding them after we had a little snow on the ground this year and I thought that was very strange.

Re: Favorite Gauges for Upland?

After a lifetime of hunting with 12 gauges, I bought a 20 gauge for last season and absolutely love it. With the variety of ammunition and chokes available nowadays, I think it is hard to say one is a lot better than the other.

Re: Cephalexin for lyme

nope. doxy is the go-to for Lyme. I believe amoxicillin is used for Lyme in children, not sure about dogs. Different bacteria are susceptible to different antibiotics, so you can't substitute randomly. I am really surprised the the doxycycline is so expensive though. My dog got a month of it this f...

Re: rabbit hunting with a couple of gsps.

Is there a rule of thumb when it comes to how old a dog should be before introducing it to rabbits? I always worry that it will effect a dogs bird drive if he is introduced too rabbit hunting at too young of an age?

Re: He or she

Male dogs do not automatically mark/piss in the house, at least none of them that I know, or have owned. Out in the field though, you may have to sacrifce the first 5 minutes to let a male do his work lol! Personally, I would rather take a chance at a male marking then dealing with the female issues...

Re: hunting lab and brittany together

Hunting a pointer with a flusher can be a blast. As mentioned, just make sure to give to Brittany some retrieving action. I think a lot of praise for holding point while the lab flushes the bird is needed as well.

Re: GSP's Belly Scratched and Chaffed

Very Cool!! I will give the skid plates a go. My GSP is really gets after it and would run through anything to find a covey. Thanks again!! As a other poster mentioned, if your dog is in between sizes, it can be tricky, but the large straps make it pretty easy to alter. My GSP was crazy in the wood...

Personally, I wouldn't feed an 8 week old puppy anything that wasn't labeled as either "puppy food" or approved for "all life stages", but that is just me. For what its worth, there are many, high quality, salmon based foods that are approved for all life stages readily available. http://www.chewy.c...

Re: Beretta Silver Pigeon I, o/u 20 gauge

Berettas hold their value very well. I have a 12 gauge white onyx and really like it. Almost went with the silver pigeon but didn't care for the engraving on the side. Not even sure if they make the white onyx, but you might be able to find one for a little cheaper than a pigeon. Pretty certain they...

Re: Lab training

Was sort of disappointed to see it was an orange bumper. Wonder if the dog actually marked it and retrieved, or if this is their training area and the dog knew where to look for it. He was doing a lot of back and forth with his head.

Either way.....labs can mark.

Congrats!

I grouse hunted for the first time this last fall. Was what i call a "learning experience" lol! We found and flushed a bunch of them, 13, but only got shots at 2. One of which we did get, but the other one went invisible on us.

I am no expert, but I am pretty certain that it comes down to needing a steel proof choke. Some are and some aren't approved for use with steel.

I know a guy that picked up a CZ for this season and he shoots steel.

Re: Hawk screamer on beeper collar

Any loud noises by a animals ears will effect their hearing. I use the hawk scream on my GWP but I put the beeper on a different collar and put it around the dogs waist near hind quarters. Works fine and keeps the loud noise away from dogs ear. Give it a try. I used to put a piece of electrical tap...

Re: Hawk screamer on beeper collar

My dog never seemed to like the hawk scream. He took well to the regular beep, but even after quite some time, the hawk scream always seemed to break his concentration and somewhat startle him. Whether or not it is any harder on their ears than a regular beep, I have no idea. I know that I would rat...

My condolences to any Lions fans!

I really didn't care who won the game, but for the lions to lose, largely in part to the refs dropping the ball, sort of stunk.

I did get some enjoyment out of seeing Suh crying at the podium though!
