Training with pigeons question
I have an issue that I have never ran in to before. I have a young pointer female that I think has all the tools to make a good dog. The problem is that she has no real interest in pigeons. She has found and pointed quail on her own and looked good on them. I do not have enough access to wild or rel...

I generally agree with the other posters in this thread. I always find it interesting when I read on these threads about people breeding dogs to make money. I do not consider myself as a breeder, but I raise a litter of puppies every couple of years. I must be doing it wrong because I have lost a sm...

I am a bird hunter and small time weekend foot field trialer. I have pointers and I will never own a dog that isn't directly out of, or very close up to horseback all age dogs. Re: How important do you feel Bird Planters are to a Trial?
I know that in some cases it is necessary, but I do not like dizzied birds. In a trial where there is a defined boundary, I'm sure that it has to be done. Generally if a bird is released it will fly to an edge or other cover of some kind. Yes, they will occasionally just drop to the ground also. If ...

I understand, and it will probably work out perfectly. You just stand a little greater chance of dropping $1,000 or so for nothing, than if you had a female that had been bred a few times and raised litters of puppies.

If I was going to pay a large stud fee and travel a substantial distance, I would not breed a young female that had never been bred before. Not all female dogs are good mothers. Some are difficult to get bred and some just do not do a good job raising puppies. It might be too late before you find out.
