Re: can a gsp duck hunt
Where did you get that? All I am saying is there are many GSP's that can handle cold simply because of their mass/size. I have Brits and GSP. Two britt that have good mass and handle cold pretty good. But they are still just 50 and 55 pound animals. So I limit them to in the 30's. I have another th...

Re: can a gsp duck hunt
The thing is with the GSP is you can have a bigger boned, larger sized and can handle colder weather better than smaller ones. I know an old timer that used to use his brittanies for sea duck hunting but he after a few realized they would only make it till 8 years old or so. Use the right tool for ...

Re: can a gsp duck hunt
Definitely but keep in mind that any dog should be conditioned/acclimated to the environment they are going to be hunted in. Spending 3 hours in the field in Florida is a lot different than 3 hours in a duck blind in Michigan. Very true! further that, and its GROSSLY different from a cold november ...

I never understood the "a retrieve just needs FF training, so it doesn't matter" perspective. Being steady to wing and shot is also all training. If the dog's ability to be trained and to cooperate is unimportant, why bother with broke dog stakes at all. That said, nearly every trial I've ever been...

When you trained him did you condition him with denials? Meaning, did you throw out bumpers and make him stay and just walk out yourself and collect 50-75% of them?
