The thing is with the GSP is you can have a bigger boned, larger sized and can handle colder weather better than smaller ones. I know an old timer that used to use his brittanies for sea duck hunting but he after a few realized they would only make it till 8 years old or so. Use the right tool for ...

Definitely but keep in mind that any dog should be conditioned/acclimated to the environment they are going to be hunted in. Spending 3 hours in the field in Florida is a lot different than 3 hours in a duck blind in Michigan. Very true! further that, and its GROSSLY different from a cold november ...

I never understood the "a retrieve just needs FF training, so it doesn't matter" perspective. Being steady to wing and shot is also all training. Did you train initially with the boat on dry ground ? . ^^ This. If you can get the boat or A boat on dry gound and then transition to water it will fix it. Some dogs don't need it and others do.
