Re: The Spaniel Spot
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7QXYQOeR3U That looks a whole lot better! ..some over here would say the dog was just running around looking for something, and agitating the ground . The clip was 'cut' at one point? ..did the wee pup 'run in'?..I don't know...but I personally would give it the benef...

A good session is when the dog learns. A bad session is when the human learns...or at least we better, for the sake of the dog!

Re: Perfect Finish question
We're hoping to get some bird work done with the dog this weekend; we're gradually working through Perfect Start/Perfect Finish, and this weekend if all goes well we should be able to start on the "whoa with birds" section. I was wondering, though, is there a way to "re-use" birds on that portion? ...

I have used release traps of some sort but it was a long time a go. maybe 25yrs. I mush prefer to travel light and be able to present me dog with a target when I feel it is appropriate to do so. I much prefer the way the YouTube vid will explain for pointing dogs. This method I have used for planti...

Re: Too many pointer folk on here corrupting the flushing folk
So many good things about flushers: 1. You can never accuse them of crowding a bird 2. They never break point 3. Manners like honoring another dog ... what's that all about? 4. You don't have to walk or ride for any extended period of time while a dog's holding point 5. You don't need binoculars to...

Planting pigeon without release box. You may also card these birds as a way to limit flight.

Re: Too many pointer folk on here corrupting the flushing folk
Having trained more pointing dogs than flushing breeds(spaniels),yet having owned way more flushing dogs(spaniels) than pointing dogs, I can only envision posturing that will transpire here at this thread. It is a good thing we live in the Northern hemisphere at least we are all used to the spin as ...

Re: Planting pigeons
For pointing dog only Tuck the head under a wing pull both legs straight back lay bird on the ground. Simple.. for flushing dogs it is a little different deal. done easily over a 100,000 in the last 30 yrs I will have to make a clip. cannot tell you how to do it for spaniels and flushing retrievers....

Most actual training except for yard work should wait till the pup is somewhere near a 1 year old for pointers. I do most of the feild type training after the pup has had one season hunting. The retrievers usually get started much younger. Ezzy Right on if your pup is a pointing type dog let'em gro...

Re: Should I start FF?
I'm one of those who ff EVERY dog, need it or not. FF has little to do with retrieving desire, it is simple and additional obedience command. I find a dog bonds much closer to a trainer after ff. FF is a greatly misunderstood concept. Very good! If they do bond with people it does seem stronger. I ...

Hello, My GWP pup is about 8months old and now that the hunting season is over and winter is setting in, I'm thinking about FF him, but I wanted to get some opinions on this first. This time I think I am sure (OK - pretty sure). I am looking for a well started or finished English Cocker Spaniel. I would like a house-broken dog about 1 year to a 1 1/2 years old. I would like to find one in the upper mid-west - around Minnesota and the 4 bordering states. If anyone has such a d...

Just bought my last load of chukars. my supplier has to cut me off, which is fine, he cannot find enough pheasants or chukars to finish the season.
Here in Michiganistan the preserve season is open till the end April. Game birds eggs will be quite the commodity this spring and early summer.
