Re: Seeking advice on transporting dog in back of truck
We had a cap on our truck for a couple of years, wire kennels back there, windows open and when really warm a 12v fan. When cold, a blanket over top of the crates to help hold their body heat in. We keep a wireless thermometer in our mid-tack with the dogs now. Works great, and keeps me from worryin...

I think long-term we'll have use for a log splitter...I just don't want to buy junk. John used to split all the wood by hand, but he has a persistent elbow injury that gets aggravated easily. I have no idea how much wood we'll be splitting to be honest....as much as we possibly can. I've got a wood shed full of unsplit wood, and we're having 5 acres of forest cleared. My guess is if there's a diameter the splitter can't handle, we'll harvest the smaller stuff from the pile of cleared tre...

The OP asked about conditioning coats for the show ring. If he didn't think he NEEDED to do something to improve his dog's coat, he wouldn't be asking. I swear by Magic Coat shampoo, conditioner & spray conditioner. I also lightly spray with an oil sheen made for African American hair at night. Their coat absorbs the oil overnight while crated so they're not sticky or slick in the morning. Also bathe weekly.

Yup, we have a dog yard, a bitch yard, and the front yard.
Unfortunately, we've staked the horses out on the front yard enough times that they've pretty much destroyed that too. Oh well...the things we do for our animals!

What was she fed at the stud's owner's house? if she likes yogurt or cottage cheese, I'd mix a tablespoon or 2 of that into her regular food and see if she doesn't start eating again.

I agree shags. The judges LIMIT the pace (you can go as slow as you want...but only as fast as the judges are willing to ride). Figuring out what their pace limit is can be tricky, as it does seem to change from brace to brace. The rules say flat walk...except when braced with a walker. I took a 3rd...

So exactly what does AF require to qualify for a championship? I vaguely recall a conversation on one of the Brittany boards that if we qualified for our Nationals at a trial that wasn't dual sanctioned and then went on to place 1st or 2nd, American Field wouldn't recognize the placement. Yes, some trials are dual sanctioned, but run under AKC rules. 1st, 2nd & 3rd are recognized by American Field/AFTCA (if handled by an amateur). Not exactly sure what it gets you....the trial giving club must be a member of American Field (up to date on dues), and they have to pay for an ad in the m...
