I could be off base here....but I think that to the outsider, trialing looks like another world. I'm not saying there aren't Labs that point...its just what i have seen over the past 10-15 years, it doesn't seem to be very dependable. Each gauge allows you to throw out more payload...so you either can have a denser pattern or a larger pattern of the same density if you really want to spend that much time and $$$ fine tuning your gun. Practically, I don't see any difference in effectiveness with either 12, 16 or 20 gauge in the ha...

For grouse hunting I like just a small brass bell that I keep on a collar and slip over the dog's head as we leave the truck. Pointing at a distance is not desired, producing the bird for the gun is Can't agree. Does neutering have negative affects? Yes...it will make your wallet lighter. Otherwise, if you are responsible owner, have proper containment for your dog, and know where your dog is at all times, there is absolutely no reason to neuter a male dog. The statistical health advantages are minimal. Th...

The real question here is what style of hunting are you comfortable with? Sounds like you are more comfortable with a dog under the gun and not a super hard charger. If that is the case, get the flusher. The pointing dogs are probably bred to run bigger than you are accustomed to...for the most part...

Its not the breed as much as it is the breeder. Find someone who has been at it a while. Make sure the dogs have the "switch"...that they can turn it off and be calm once they're beyond 2yrs or so. Find the right breeder...then do your part.
