Called a local preserve in SW Wisconsin to schedule a hunt. I had hunted there just before Christmas and they had great bird numbers in the pens. He said he could not get anymore birds for the season. Suppliers are all out. :x

love my 16 Grade 4. for the price and for a new gun it's hard to beat. These light Spanish guns are just not made to shoot high performance/velocity steel. I have seminole chambermates so I can shoot 28 out of the 16. Good enough for now.

Does any company actually make a 16 gauge, that has been built on dedicated 16 gauge frame or is everyone of them on a 12 gauge frame? I never saw the interest in them because everyone of them seem to be the exact same weight or slightly heavier than a 12 gauge, and I can find almost identical load...

I have a set of Seminole Chambermates for my 16ga Uggie SxS. They convert the 16 to a 28 - yes another goofy gauge that not many shoot - but, I have a reloader in 28ga and it's much cheaper for me to shoot clays and skeet like that than it is to try and find 16ga shells to just go and blast at clays...

I went out last week on wedneday for a long weekend hunt with 2 differnt groups of guys. Drove out Wednesday, and started in the Gregory area on Thursday morning with one group and then to an area north of Mitchell for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The hunt was spotty for me - but still a lot of fun...

I train there with the Kettle Moraine NAVHDA chapter during the spring and summer. They grounds and cover are kept in pretty good shape. Hoping to get over there for a fall hunt after deer season. Sounds like you had a great hunt!

I have a 16ga grade IV sidelock. First season with it, but a nice gun. I have had zero issues with it. Points well and swings fast. I use a strap vest over the top. If/when I get hot, the pullover comes off and in the vest it goes until I may need it later in the day.

20 gauge with 3/4 oz light loads will have less felt recoil than the 28 IMHO due to the mass of the gun. That 20 will be much more versatile for the future as well.

I love my 28, but wouldn't buy one for a new shooter. Unless you reload, you will be spending double on the shells.

After taking a NAVHDA Handler's Clinic this summer, the situation of having the dog move to watch the bird, but not break and chase, was discussed during the field portions of the UT and UPT. If I remember right, they instructor told us that since there was no forward movement, that it was acceptable.

I moved to Wisconsin from the east-coast when I was 14. I immediately took hunters safety and talked my dad into letting me spend the $115 I had on a used Mossberg pump at the local hardware store.
